New Jersey Democrats fail to extend millionaires tax
Source: Reuters

New Jersey Democratic legislators on Monday failed to gather enough votes to extend a tax on millionaires that would have been used to provide property tax relief for senior citizens and the disabled.

Democrats wanted to override Republican Governor Chris Christie's veto of the plan but were unable to get any Republicans to join them to muster the two-thirds majority needed in the state Assembly.

The Democrats had wanted to reimpose a one-year, 10.75 percent tax on income above $1 million that would have hit 16,000 people, some of them likely to work as financial professionals just across the Hudson River in New York.

...

"Governor Christie's heartless vetoes denied property tax relief to senior citizens struggling to make ends meet," Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Cryan said in a statement.

6. I am, too...but other states aren't better in protecting the rest of us from the Rich & Entitled..

After all we've seen that folks vote against themselves shows the power and influence of those who HAVE against those who HAVE NOTHING. But, apparently those who HAVE NOTHING...think they might be rich one day so they don't want to tax against their potential. Some studies have shown that even the poor don't want the rich taxed. It does make one  CRAZY! thinking of that kind of brainwashing!

10. Ditto
This guy is an embarrassment.

We moved to Maryland 20 years ago.
Our property taxes are about a third of what they would be in NJ.

4. I just received an empassioned
resident to ask that I contact our State Assemblymen and Senator to support reinstating the 'millionaire tax'. I got consensus from my council, but I see it may be too late.

7. That's what you get when you vote for a scumbag like Christie.
And he's only just getting started.

8. I think this headline is misleading and plays into
the whole "Democrats fail" at this or that or the other messaging trap. The true title of this story should be, "Republicans side with millionaries, block tax relief for seniors, people with disabilities."

Maybe this post is simply repeating the Reuters headline, but even so all this does is reinforce the "Democrats are failing" MSM meme.

Repetition is the mother's milk of political messaging, and every time we repeat a GOP positive or Democratic negative message, we make the outcome this November a little less hopeful.

And by the way, shame on Governor Christie.
