Republican Party rejects liability cap bill again
Source: Politico

Democrats attempted Thursday to create unlimited liability for oil companies, and for the fourth time since the Gulf crisis began, Republicans objected.

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) asked for a voice vote to pass a bill that would hold oil companies accountable for all damages they create, a significant leap from the $75 million cap set by current law. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), ranking member of the Environmental and Public Works Committee, rejected the request.

Menendez's fourth failed shot at moving the liability bill came just a day after BP President Tony Hayward committed to establishing a $20 billion escrow fund, touted by both the White House and Congress, to help clean up what has become the most devastating ecological disaster in American history.

"Are we going to stand up for the communities and the coast along the Gulf shores, or are we going to stand up with Big Oil? That is what this is about, about setting responsibility where responsibility should lie," Menendez said on the floor.

It is interesting that most media outlets refuse to report on Republican continuing efforts to protect Big Oil. Heck, even this article by Politico censors out the name of the bill: "The Big Oil Bailout Prevention Liability Act of 2010," because the media only plays along when Republicans call something a bailout, but when Republicans protect BP, then you cannot use the word "bailout" when reporting.

2. Long past due to blast these freaking Republicans, the Dems need to spend their money
on some ads, the likes of CNN's David Gergen are not going to do their job on this. Never have and never will.

3. Why take out an ad??
Call a press conference and list the names of all the politicians that voted against it.
Say the names out loud and let the shit fall where it may.
The democrats for the most part are afraid of the republicans and until
they start holding their ground, nothing will change.

Call them out, voice their names and then let them defend their votes.

4. Same problem here in the New Mississippi
I told my Democrat State Senator that they should do exactly that!

Every time the bat-shit crazy neo-nazis in Phoenix introduce or pass some jerkwad piece of legislation (which is damn near every day these assholes are in session), the entire Democrat caucus should call a press conference in time for the 6pm news hole and then take turns detailing the stupid asshole legislation(s) of the day...

They should do this each and every day -- loudly and clearly...

And then give a Progressive alternative to the "problem", if any actual problem is being addressed...

<Crickets>

No spines!

So I'm working on the campaign of a guy I trust who's NOT a scared Demoncrat and who's running for the seat of that Democrat...

7. Yup - "The Big Oil Bailout Prevention Liability Act of 2010"
Edited on Sun Jun-20-10 08:52 PM by TomCADem
That is the title of the bill. Yet, the media refuses to say the name of the bill, because god forbid that oil companies be held accountable for the damage they cause. Yet, Republicans are allowed to spin every piece of progressive legislation as a bailout with impunity.
