Top Republican joins chorus calling for Rep. Barton to step aside
Source: The Hill

Rep. Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) added his name to the list of Republicans calling on Rep. Joe Barton to step aside as ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce committee.

The Gulf Coast GOP lawmaker, incensed that Barton apologized to BP at Thursday's high-profile hearing, released a statement on Friday saying that Barton's comments "sadly fall short of an appropriate response."

In that statement Bonner, the ranking member of the House ethics panel, revealed that he talked to Barton on Friday morning.

"As I told him, I believe the damage of his comments are beyond repair and, as such, I am today calling on Joe to do the right thing for our conference and immediately step aside as Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee," Bonner said in the statement.

2. HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!
I would like nothing better than to rid Congress of all politicians that put corporations and themselves above the American people. Getting rid of Barton is not the answer, it is just that he said what all of them feel and they did not like hearing it said aloud.

7. "Getting rid of Barton is not the answer"
Oh brother. Having Republicans calling for his head is the answer. It's not like anyone really believes Republicans don't agree with Barton's sentiments.

8. Yes, and don't forget
the WSJ.

The key thing is that this story isn't going away. Republicans are tripping all over their own comments to appear angry at Barton while trying to criticize the government using similar language.

9. Thats my rep, he is only saying that because his district was affected.
If it was another district he wouldn't give a shit unless a democrat said what barton said.
