Dem complaints pay off with nine probes
By Alexander Bolton
March 25, 2004

At least nine high-profile investigations have been triggered in the wake of a flood of Democratic demands targeting the heretofore scandal-free Bush administration and the Republican-controlled Congress.

<snip>

There are two ongoing probes related to Medicare, which Bush made his top domestic legislative priority last year. First, Health and Human Services Inspector General Dara Corrigan is looking into whether Bush administration officials committed wrongdoing by withholding from Congress key data about the cost of the Medicare bill.

Second, the General Accounting Office (GAO) is investigating the legality of White House video news releases touting Medicare’s new prescription-drug benefit.

<snip>

“My sense is that there are a lot of investigations out there,” said Paul Light, a professor of public service at New York University and a fellow at the Brookings Institution. “It’s a lot of things coming to fruition at the same time.” Noting some of these investigations are highly visible, Light added: “They are going to drip onto the Bush campaign throughout the coming six, eight months and they do have a cumulative effect in terms of eroding public confidence.”

1. All of those investigations are valid.
The reality is, that some of those investigations should have started a long time ago. Why does it take an election year for these shake-outs to take place?

2. Too bad Democrats don't have subpoena power
When we did control the Senate under Bush, our side didn't subpoena anyone.

8. Yeah, right. Everything's Lieberman's fault. (Sarcasm.)
Here's a news flash. The backlash won't ever cometh unless Democrats can stay united and stop attacking one another.

9. Perhpas that newsflash would best be addressed to Joe.
After all, it was Joe who characterized much of his own (supposed) party as "tax and spend Democrats."

10. TahitiNut has it right
Joe was too intent on leading Dems away from Dem ideals, and, instead, toward Republican ones. And it serves your party no purpose to reach a position of power, and then not use that power to advance an honest dialogue in this country by demanding investigations or subpoenas if they were warranted. Those big boys in Washington reach the top and suddenly they get lost in their own cocktail to cocktail diplomacy and forget about the rest of us bagel bite common folk.

But, hey, I'm not an unkind person. Joe will be welcomed with open arms the day he gets feisty and remembers what it's like to get his hair tussled in a fight.

12. Lieberman has opened himself up for attack...

...by being such a rightwing, ass-kissing, b*sh-enabling fool.

We need less alleged Dems like Lieberman and Zell Miller. If they were to switch sides to becoming Republicans, I would neither be surprised nor sad to see them go.

In conclusion: fuck Joseph Lieberman and the horse he rode in on!

7. It's not a scandal unless it involves sex. There's no sex in this WH.
Therefore, no scandal.

War is peace. Work makes Freedom. Etc, etc.

14. Also too bad these
investigations are getting VERY little media play. They are much more interesting than the scandals that brought down the Democrats in 94.
