Halliburton campaign donations spike
Source: Politico

As Congress investigated its role in the doomed Deep Horizon oil rig, Halliburton donated $17,000 to candidates running for federal office, giving money to several lawmakers on committees that have launched inquiries into the massive spill.

The Texas-based oil giant’s political action committee made 14 contributions during the month of May, according to a federal campaign report filed Wednesday – 13 to Republicans and one to a Democrat. It was the busiest donation month for Halliburton’s PAC since Sept. 2008.

Of the 10 current members of Congress who got money from Halliburton in May, seven are on committees with oversight of the oil spill and its aftermath.

Halliburton’s political contributions in May are the highest they’ve been since September 2009, when the PAC also gave $17,000 in donations. In fact, the last time the company gave more than $17,000 in one month was when it donated $25,000 during the heat of the presidential campaign in September 2008.

1. Such a time-based spike is strong evidence of corruption.
At least it seems so to me.

3. Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK)
Oklahoma Rep. Dan Boren, the only Democrat who got Halliburton’s money, is on the House Natural Resources Committee.

4. This is the best government money can buy.
Certainly not the best for the people, but it is doing just fine for the corporations.

8. Halliburton is also making out quite well in Pennsylvania.
Excerpt: From the Susquehanna County Gas Forum:

The state legislature is bought and sold by oil and gas companies interested in Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale gas deposits.

At least, that is the accusation made today by several government reform organizations and a local state representative.

Joined by the League of Women Voters, Penn Future and State Rep. David Levdansky, Common Cause accused the oil and gas industry of trying to buy the state legislature through campaign contributions and multi- million dollar lobbying campaigns.

The accusers said the goal is to prevent tough regulations of Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling and a severance tax on its extraction of natural gas.

It’s all about the money, say critics of Pennsylvania’s law that allows unlimited campaign donations to candidates and incumbents.

Rest of article with a lot of interesting information.

Also, the link in my signature line contains pictures and more info. on how Halliburton is able to get away with their acts.

Surprise!...Cheney once again.

13. No doubt.
It's a quasi legal system that corrupts American politics at its very core , but most Americans have been hoodwinked into believing it is logical and proper. It's disgusting.

15. Too Many Foxes
How did we end up with all these foxes running the hen house? They can't work for the people as long as they are on boards and taking orders from the corporate side of the barnyard! One does not need to purchase fertilizer when the leaders of the barnyard are creating it themselves!
