Anti-Bush Books Continue to Be Big Sellers
NEW YORK (AP)--Newsmaking allegations, White House rebuttals and a ready audience for anti-Bush books have helped make Richard A. Clarke's ``Against All Enemies'' a big best seller, publishing officials say. ``Against All Enemies,'' released Monday, had an announced first printing of 300,000 copies and an additional 100,000 already have been ordered, according to the Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

``It's blowing out at our stores,'' says Bob Wietrak, a vice president of merchandising at Barnes & Noble, Inc. ``There has been phenomenal publicity. The book has been talked about on every talk show and every news show you can think of. Also, he's an authority. He was there.''

<snip>

``You needed to have enough time go by so these more substantial books could have been written. The O'Neill and Clarke books could not have been written any sooner,'' says Neil Nyren, publisher and editor-in-chief of Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), which published Franken last fall and the Phillips book this winter.

Books unfavorable to Bush will continue coming out, including ``Worse Than Watergate,'' by John W. Dean, a former aide to President Nixon, and ``The Politics of Truth,'' by former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, who has criticized the White House's uses of intelligence before the Iraq war.

1. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Oh, and did I mention BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Can't you just hear the whiny hypocritical repukes crying foul now?

Well, I say that all of us who are financially able need to go out and buy at least one of these books, maybe more to make up for those who can't do it financially!

21. Also, try Half.com.
They are a part of eBay now. But I sell books on Half.com and there are some real bargains.

6. You can borrow my copies of "Dude, Where's My Country," "Lies and the...

...Lying Liars Who Tell Them," "Bushwhacked," "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy," "Stupid White Men," "The Betrayal of America," and "Jews for Buchanan." I'll bring any or all of 'em with me when we finally meet for the first time. Just say the word!

18. We pass our copies around in our local Democratic meetings.
Not everyone can afford them. We have several umemployed.

It is odd -- I have a rather extensive Watergate library. I was looking at it the other day. Maybe this so-called president will go the way of Nixon.

Nixon had his loyalists, too. There were many who refused to believe that he was a crook. They said, "Everybody does it. He just got caught."

He was never rehabilitated as an elder statesman, thank God. That is what I thought they would try to do.

I usually go to the library for my books. But Watergate...yeah. That is the last time I bought so many books about a President.

30. There are waiting list hundreds long for liberal books at my library
I got "Sorrows of Empire" for my birthday after I'd complained to my dad that I was #300 on the wait list.

31. I've been donating my copies to the local branch ...
The hardcovers, particularly, are much appreciated. And also DVDs (such as "Bowling for Columbine" and Noam Chomsky's lecture series.)

10. Clarke's is my fifth. I blame all those book sales on the Neo-cons
who have shut out the middle and the left from all mass media, especially radio. Think about it. When you add all of Gore's vote, and all of Nader's votes in 2000, the middle left and left actually won 54% of the voting public. So yes, we are a left leaning nation, under the dictatorship of Bush wacko Waco religous reactionaries.

2. Just purchased Gore Vidal's "Dreaming War"
I saw him on Maher's show last night and was "shocked and awed" by his absolute shut down of the evil troll (Frum). Frum was sputtering and babbling while Gore, speaking slowly and grasping his cane like a hammer, annihilated him.

7. Yup. And don't let anyone tell you Bush is Boring.
Forget Clinton and his escapades. There is no limit to how much they can write about Bush and His Clowns. I must admit I love it.

It gives me new thrills to read the dirt being dished out about Donald Rums-filled, Condoliar, Colon Bowel, Asscrust, McFoolan, and an Entire Entourage of Amateurs.

And those fools in the White House better believe the tape recorder is always turned on. They're always fudging it, telling lies and having to cover up and re-think the lie and try to make it fit a new lie and hope no one finds out.

If it wasn't so tragic, it would be downright entertaining. But what the hell: revenge isn't all bad.

But the first person account of what happened on 9/11 is pretty riveting (well, I guess not completely riveting, or I'd be reading it now :))

11. Meanwhile: Savage, Hannity and O'Reilly need to give away books ..
... Every 5 seconds on their radio shows. If you can stomach it its comical the way those three lunkheads give away their books within seconds. Heck Wiener was giving 2 books per call twice tonight.
Its too funny and it just what these liars and snake oil salesmen deserve..
I think that gravy train just dried up.

19. And remember, there's "no market for left-leaning" books, media, etc.
The Cons have been parroting that line of BS for years now. Trouble is, you can't beat a good story. And the Regime is full of enough (frighteningly) good stories to run a TV network 24/7.

I guess book burnings are the Cons' next step!

23. Saw this firsthand
Over the weekend, my sweetie and I were visiting various bookstores in the DC area, including an average B&N in an affluent sort of area where Repukes would be expected to roam. We were knocked over by the number of works out there revealing details about the Bushistas, the Repukes in general, and the war on terra'.

I hoe they keep on coming and continue to get publicity.

32. The last bastion of free speech
Thank God the publishing industry isn't subject to the same corporatist editorial controls that have transformed American media into GOP propaganda rags. This is about the only place left where a reader can still hear anything resembling truth. I hope the media is paying attention to the popularity of these books and taking a serious look at the wisdom of having sold out their journalistic integrity for a few advertising bucks.
