Adm. Thad Allen cedes command of Coast Guard
Source: Times-Picayune

Adm. Robert Papp took over Tuesday as commandant of the Coast Guard in a ceremony at Fort McNair in Washington.

Papp replaces, Adm. Thad Allen, who has been the top federal officer overseeing the response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Allen will continue to be the national incident commander in the Gulf, even though he’s scheduled to retire from the Coast Guard July 1. At that time, he could either be recalled to active duty or keep doing the same job as a civilian.

2. Except it sounds as though he's still the in-charge guy in the Gulf. When
I watched his press conference, I didn't get a feeling of encouragement.

6. He was the in-charge guy during Katrina
you know, when only the Coast Guard had a half way reasonable response. There are 22,000 people protecting the shoreline and wildlife; 1,200 skimmers, tugs, and barges; and 1.8 million feet of containment boom and 990,000 feet of sorbent boom have been deployed, the largest ever.

Just because the media hasn't interviewed a single one of these people, doesn't mean they aren't there.

4. Of course many guys named "Robert" use the nickname "Bob".
Which means the guy now in charge of the Coast Guard has the initials "B.P."

Geez, they couldn't have waited until June 6 at 6 PM to maximize the creepy factor? :scared:

8. It sounds more like they're trying to innoculate the CG by putting this
damaged guy only in charge of the Gulf.
