The leading edge may contain tarballs that are not readily observable from the imagery (hence not included in the model initialization).

Currents were obtained from four models: NOAA Gulf of Mexico, West Florida Shelf/USF, NRL IASNFS and NC State SABGOM.

A low pressure system east of the Bahamas will likely pull the loop current more towards Florida than is shown in this animation. At least that is what weather reports are now saying.

12. Palm Beach is the only place where the Gulfstream/Loop Current comes right up to the shoreline
