BP says oil-siphoning tube not working as well as before
By The Associated Press
May 23, 2010, 11:07AM

COVINGTON, La. -- Three top Obama administration officials are returning to the Gulf Coast to monitor the massive oil spill that seems to have no end in sight, as BP PLC officials said Sunday that one of their efforts to slow the leak wasn't working as effectively as before.

BP spokesman John Curry told The Associated Press on Sunday that a mile-long tube inserted into the leaking well siphoned some 57,120 gallons of oil within the past 24 hours, a sharp drop from the 92,400 gallons of oil a day that the device was sucking up on Friday. However, the company has said the amount of oil siphoned will vary widely from day to day.

Engineers are working furiously to stem the growing ooze as more wildlife and delicate coastal wetlands are tainted despite the oil-absorbing booms placed around shorelines to protect them.

Oil booms and dead fish, bottom, are seen in a marsh impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in Pass a Loutre, along the coast of Louisiana, Saturday, May 22, 2010.

1. "It's not working as well as we told you it was."
Again, they are trying to confuse everyone. How much oil actually is spewing from thes giant holes? Look for weeks and weeks of conflicting info. They have people on staff whose job it is to do this.

3. they put out miles of 'booms' to stop surface oil while putting dispersants in to sink the oil ?

they are completely putting on a dog and pony show, and the government is standing by, whistling, while this continues into a second of many months to come

nearly nothing has changed except they are getting better at hiding this from the press (who has dropped the ball anyway because this was NOT covered at all like it should have been, and continues to be ignored)

5. Here we go again! Wondered why we hadn't heard about "The Tube's Success" in days!

On CNN this morning they focused on some new "Top Hat." So I figured the tube was long gone...

7. Russian option: nuke the well. It will seal it...or it will make the hole, and oil flow, much bigger
They obviously are fishing for a solution that will work.

Since their "solutions" to date have only made things worse, I think trying a nuke is a bad idea.

The Russian problems were on land, not under an ocean.

8. Nice. Potentially larger leak and radioactive to boot. Perfect.
Just what we want. Not.
