Representative Kim Meltzer to bring Arizona style immigration law to Michigan
Source: Examiner

The controversial Arizona immigration law may be coming to Michigan. State Representative Kim Meltzer plans on introducing a similar bill in Lansing.

Meltzer, representing Clinton Township, says she is in the process of drafting the legislation to provide more authority to the state’s law enforcement

A Michigan lawmaker believes the state's law enforcement officers need the authority to arrest illegal immigrants and is drafting legislation similar to Arizona's new immigration law.

As with the Arizona law, a primary offence will be required before stopping any individual. Once stopped, if the officer has reason to doubt the legal status the officer may request proof of citizen. Lack of proof could result in an arrest.

6. I wondered if it was possible that she was a Democrat. Sure enough - a republican.
Working the "fear the illegal Mexican" tactic to electoral success. What else is new?

We've got a repub state legislator in Ohio that wants to pursue a referendum, since he know our Democratic governor, Strickland, will veto a law.

3. Apparently immigration is Michigan's biggest issue

It should be mentioned that Meltzer is running for the state senate. She just trying to win the primary by going after the far-right. I doubt the bill will go anywhere. Even if it passed the legislature, Gov. Granholm would veto it. '

5. I was unaware that there were lots of illegal Canadians in Michigan
or Mexicans, either, for that matter. Why would ANY one want to go there when there are no jobs?

Or am I misinformed?
