John McCain Immigration Reversal: 'Complete Danged Fence'
Source: ABC News

In New Ariz. Senate Race Ad, McCain Supports Border Barrier He Once Opposed

Sen. John McCain has released a tough-talking television ad that blames illegal immigrants for "home invasions (and) murders" and calls for the completion of the "danged fence" along the U.S.-Mexico border, reversing years of opposition to such a barrier.

Facing the most difficult primary challenge he has seen in years, the ad is the most recent in a series of measures McCain, R-Ariz., has taken which play to the far right of his party, including endorsing a controversial new law that allows police to stop people they suspect are illegal immigrants and demand identification.

Walking along the incomplete fence with Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, McCain says: "drug and human smuggling, home invasions, murder." To, which Babeu responds, "We're outmanned. Of all the illegals in America, more than half come through Arizona."

Babeu tells McCain that his proposal for curbing illegal immigration is a perfect plan: "You bring troops, state, county and local law enforcement together."

"And," adds McCain, "complete the danged fence."

"It'll work this time. Senator, You're one of us," Babeu replies.

What a complete fool trying to rework his stand on everything. Sad and pitiful to watch happen.

3. He's an idiot
He doesn't support this and voters know it, he's just in a tough primary. I think voters would appreciate it more if he said "Although I am a conservative, I can't support these tough immigration laws, and would rather lose for standing up for what I believe in."

4. This is nonsense . . . we need Mexico to be investing in Mexico, not America . . .
and creating jobs in Mexico --

We need to STOP American business from hiring illegals -- creating strong penalties

for doing so --

And we are certainly NOT going to deport 11 million or more Mexicans from America!!

Nor should we be creating a new police state on our Mexican borders!!

5. You have to see this ad to believe it. It's that bad.
McCain has lost all McCainability. Being that close to Palin during the campaign must have destroyed his remaining brain cells. The man is lost. Arizona voters need to send him to the retirement facility.

6. Someone needs to tell the truth. The border cannot be secured.
Wall in the entire country? Don't think so - the country is too large. Just wall the border with Mexico? It's still too much territory to watch. Who will man this wall day and night? Will they have orders to shoot to kill? My brother manned a tower in Viet Nam and the soldiers in towers on either side of him were killed. The soldiers never saw them coming. Tunnels can go under any wall. Payoffs here and there will defeat the wall. What about going after employers if one is serious about stopping border immigration. And, what about doing something about the demand for drugs - the other half of the problem. We need comprehensive immigration legislation. No chance the Republicans will vote for anything the current administration puts forward.

10. And that's the crux of the problem
I get two newspapers now, the Spokane Spokesman-Review and the Coeur d'Alene Press. The CdA Press has an editorial/LTTE page maybe twice a week, once on Sunday and once when they can wedge it in around all the ads. The letters to the CDA Press are almost all immigration-related, and they're almost all "catch the wetbacks and deport them quick, and they'll stop coming." I finally got pissed and wrote a LTTE: you could completely encircle the US in a 100-foot wall, and so long as there are people in the US willing to hire illegals there are going to be welders in Mexico cranking out 150-foot ladders as fast as they possibly can. The ONLY way we are going to ever solve the problem of illegal immigration is to solve the problem of Americans thinking a $5/hour employee is so much better than an $8 one they don't care how many laws they break to hire them.

Funny story: I know this quarterwit in Fayettenam who's a contractor. I have NO idea at all how this man passed the General Contractor's exam to get a license, but I know he has one because his license number's on the door of his truck. This man employs nothing but illegals and pays them fairly well for illegals--$5.50 per hour during the Dubya Bush administration. However, it is damn hard to live on $5.50 per hour no matter how illegal you are, and he was working them half to death. So...one day he was in the store buying all new power tools because one of the illegals he employed pawned every tool he owned. He couldn't get anyone to admit doing it so he canned them all and started anew. I didn't say a damn thing, but consider: if you hire these guys for halfass wages and not only do they steal you blind but follow the old Soviet maxim "we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us," are you really better off with illegal labor? Would you perhaps be better off hiring LEGAL workers and paying them enough to live on, and getting quality work in exchange?

13. Almost every photo I've seen of illegals coming across the border...
They were going.. 1. Over a fence. 2. Under a fence 3. Around a fence. 4. Right through a broken fence.

Instead of putting troops in every continent, put some on the border and finish the fence.
