Uninvited preacher (Franklin Graham) prays anyway (outside the Pentagon)

Franklin Graham still thinks Islam is ‘wicked’ and ‘evil’

WASHINGTON - Evangelist Franklin Graham prayed on a sidewalk outside the Pentagon Thursday after his invitation to a prayer service inside was withdrawn because of comments that insulted people of other religions.

Graham's invitation to attend an event inside the Defense Department for national prayer day was withdrawn two weeks ago.

But he arrived in the Pentagon parking lot just before 8 a.m. EDT — his party of a half dozen people forming a circle on the sidewalk and praying with heads bowed for about five minutes.

Nine years ago, Graham called Islam "wicked" and "evil."

He told an impromptu press conference Thursday outside the Pentagon that he prayed for the men and women of the armed forces and that he doesn't feel his statements about other religions have been offensive.

2. And Abbie Hoffman got a crowd decades ago to convene outside the Pentagon in an
effort to levitate it.

Different goals with different individuals, same result.

4. I just read an interesting article on a study in Australia about racists
The study found that people who harbored racist views of the aboriginal peoples in Australia believed that their views were normative. Indeed, many of those individuals that identified themselves as having racist views reported that they believed many of their family, friends, colleagues and fellow citizens held views that were more extreme then their own, thereby granting some sort of validity to their own racist views.

Reading this story about Franklin Graham and how he doesn't feel his statements about other religions being offensive reminded me of the study and the article. There are simply times when even a facepalm just doesn't say it all.

5. He tried to pray so hard that the Pentagon would levitate and turn orange
and all the evil spirits would be driven out and they would decide to kill everyone in the world except for the True Christians.

10. I daresay a sidewalk is an appropriate place for him to pray.
And it's a good thing if the military is distancing itself from more controversial preacher-men like him and Tony Perkins. With all our forces have on their plate, more religious controversy is the last thing they need. Indeed, the sermons I heard during my service in Uncle Sam's army were consistently the blandest, most innocuous, and most unmemorable I've heard in my life, so I'd say chaplains have largely got the same idea.
