U.S., other big powers to refrain from atomic tests
Source: reuters

The United States, Russia, China, Britain and France issued their statement at a month-long meeting of the 189 signatories of the 1970 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which is taking stock of the landmark arms control pact.

"We reaffirm our determination to abide by our respective moratoria on nuclear test explosions before entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and call on all States to refrain from conducting a nuclear test explosion," the statement said.

"We will continue our efforts aimed at early entry into force of the CTBT and achieving its universality and call upon all states that have not yet done so to sign and ratify this treaty," the five added.

Under the terms of the NPT, the five powers were permitted to keep their nuclear weapons, though they agreed to enter into negotiations on disarmament. The treaty is aimed at stopping the spread of atomic arms while guaranteeing signatories the right to civilian nuclear energy programs.

1. Big frikken deal - the USA knows it can blow the World to shit
.
.
.

"testing" is no longer needed.

USA's PNAC crowd is just itching to use some of of those thousands of nukes already aimed at most of the countries in the World

Ours(Canada) included

count on it

(sigh)

4. Think about it
.
.
.

USA gets many of it's needed resources from Canada

If we ever cut them off . . .

think about it

I'm sure the PNACers have. . . .

If Canada turned into an enemy of the USA

USA could be in deep trouble

imagine Russian or Chinese nukes on Canada's soil

I'm sure that the war-machine in the USA has pondered that . .

They sure freaked out when Cuba was scheduled for nukes from Russia . .

Imagine what the USA would do if WE got nukes from Russia/China - anyone - -

We already have the silos

some only 50 miles from where I live . .

sumthing to ponder

:freak:

5. IF the us cuts canada off they collapse

10. good god, nuking canada?
we are actually talking about this fucking insane concept even in a trivial manner???

a new low for DU.

first of all, they are our #1 supplier of oil. we nuke them we irradiate the oil.

Just the talk of "nuking" canada is completely absurd.

(and yes, I am fully aware that the US military has contingent plans for everything.)

If it ever gets to the point where we are seriously considering "nuking" canada, the US will had to have slid down the slippery slope so far, that climbing back up to sanity would be a forgone conclusion. "nuking" Canada would be the very least of our worries.

12. Umm - have you studied how much lumber, oil, gas, electricity, beef, etc, comes from Canada?
.
.
.

Other nations want our resources too . .

but our commitments at the moment are mostly to the USA.

Granted - our economy would suffer greatly for a period of time if the USA "cut us off" - I mean refused to trade with us I guess you mean.

But there is a world-wide market for our resources.

USA gets the cream simply because of it's location

we would not "collapse"

we would adapt.

15. We already were - don't you remember the accusations that the 911 guys came in from Canada??
.
.
.

I believe that many USAmericans still believe that.

and that Iraq was involved in 911, and supported Al-Qaeda

We STILL don't know who was responsible for the 911 crime.

But we are killing lots of people half way across the globe with that as an excuse.

I was proud of our leadership when Jean Chretien refused to support the slaughter in Iraq

sadly

not since . . .
