EPA Ramps Up Air Quality Monitoring for Oil Spill
Source: Associated Press

The Environmental Protection Agency says it's stepping up air quality monitoring on the Gulf Coast.

There are concerns that vapors from the oil and controlled fires might cause health problems for people living in the region. An oil smell could cause headaches or nausea, but EPA spokesman Dave Bary said Saturday there have been no confirmed reports of such problems.

State health agencies are advising people having such symptoms to stay indoors and ventilate their homes with air conditioning.

1. Good Gawd
""EPA spokesman Dave Bary said Saturday there have been no confirmed reports ""

Yeah, they can't smell it in DC, so there's no problem there.

The EPA best issue an alert telling everyone that what amounts to sticking your head in a gas tank is not very f'n smart.

2. You know what really sucks?
When the oil spill first happen FOX/Talk Radio were blaming Obama/Democratic Party for politicizing the oil rig explosion and small oil spill...Then as it clear this spill was much worse than BP said it was to begin with they are now blaming Obama for not stopping the rapid spreading oil slick! Never mind the fact BP was the only one who had OR WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE such technology. Could you imagine what the right would have said had Obama called for the military one day one through 5? They would have exploded in anger!

Now the main stream media is trying to keep pace with the right wing media & starting to report that the government was late to the game...This is simply ABSURD!

YES, the government is very much to blame for just accepting the word of BP & BIG OIL that they had the ability to clean such a spill up when obviously they do not!

QUESTION: I wonder if this oil spill will change the attitude of most Americans that we need to put down the CRACK PIPE of BIG OIL?

If so...Will there be enough change in attitude to begin taxing oil so that we can generate money for ALT FUELS RESEARCH & so that gas prices will be high enough to change driving habits?

3. Answer
No, We will continue smoking the oil crack. For a while yet.

What we can and must do now is not allow the whitewash of BP, or any of the other 'drill baby drill' proponents.

No more gambling with oil wells. This crisis could have easily been prevented, but profits halted prevention methods. From now on, profits will not be allowed to be the deciding factor.

We could easily have 100mpg automobiles. Solar power, bio-fuels. But profit making has kept the future at bay.

The only way we get the change we deserve is use this crisis as a lever to extract from the profiteers the truth. That truth being that destroying our environment for a fistful of dollars is a truly radical idea.

6. We need a high oil or gas tax!
Without some type of governor put in place we will continue to use gas like it is water...I doubt this country has the brains to see we are running off a cliff in so many ways! Energy, Education, Health Care, immigration and many other issues!

The Republicans seriously piss me off! They cry Obama is not opening enough areas for drilling and the government is to involved in everything...And now they are crying that there is not enough government when it comes to the oil spill!

The sad truth is the American people seem to be buying the Republican scare despite they have no plan to reform ANYTHING!

This country is headed for some seriously dark times!

4. Here is my solution for this. Make Cheney, Bush, Condi and BP Exec.
sit near the fumes and they can be test cases on what we can
expect. Let them be the first ones that
really come in contact with all these nasty fumes and
chemicals etc. Can't you see them just lining up for this
patriotic task?
