Battle for 23rd District congressional seat seems likely to become a three-way race again
Source: Syracuse Post Standard

Washington, DC -- Five months after Doug Hoffman exposed a deep divide in the Republican Party by launching a third-party bid for Congress, the odds are suddenly improving for a repeat three-way race in the 23rd Congressional District this fall.

The scenario began to play out last week as the early momentum shifted to Republican investment banker Matt Doheny, of Watertown, as he battles Hoffman for the GOP nomination.

Doheny, a political newcomer, picked up the endorsement of the Oneida County Republican Committee and the backing of Republican chairs in Jefferson, Clinton and Essex counties. So far, no Republican county committees or chairs in the 11-county district have endorsed Hoffman.

1. Hoffman cost them a No vote on the health care bill
Scozzafava may not have been a down the line conservative, but she would have been a no vote on that bill.

2. I thought DD would support HCR
That's why the repubs didn't like her. She was also for Gay marriage.

But the symbolism of the district might make Republican strategist want to lose it.

Many people are really hooked on symbols and 23, is one of the symbols for occult or Antichrist in some dictionaries of symbols.

So the Republicans might be wanting to lose it to push that thought. There really are people that use stuff like that to create their thoughts on issues.
