US professor faked anti-Semitic attack

A reported hate crime that aroused intense campus protests and national interest was a hoax perpetrated by the alleged victim, according to police investigators.

Focal point of the incident is Kerri Dunn, a visiting assistant professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna College, part of a consortium of seven prestigious private colleges in eastern Los Angeles County.

She reported on March 9 that while she was speaking at a campus forum on racial intolerance, her car was spray-painted with anti-Semitic and racial slurs, the tires slashed and the windows broken.

Dunn, 39, is a white woman, who has declared publicly that she was converting, or considering conversion, from Catholicism to Judaism, The Los Angeles Times reported.

She had the whole damn college in a protest over the thing. People were carrying signs, she was up on a balcony or something giving a speech, people were cheering with righteous indignation.

Anti-Semitism surges in Canada

The number of anti-Semitic incidents in Canada has more than doubled in the past two years, according to a new report issued by the League for Human Rights of B'nai B'rith Canada.

In its 2003 Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, the league noted that there had been 584 recorded episodes targeting Jews last year, the highest number in the 21 years of the audit's existence. The figure for 2003 marked a 27.2% increase over 2002, and a rise of more than 104% since 2001.

10. There was a case in Portland about ten years ago

in which an African-American woman kept burning crosses on her own lawn to get attention. Somebody finally videotaped her doing it.

It was sad, because the neighborhood had earlier rallied in her defense, and there had been a number of REAL racist incidents in previous years.

I guess it's a form of self-dramatization.
