Massive Fireball Reported Across Mid-West Sky
Edited on Thu Apr-15-10 12:22 PM by BolivarianHero
Source: CNN

Authorities in several Midwestern states were flooded Wednesday night with reports of a gigantic fireball lighting up the sky, the National Weather Service said.

The fireball was visible for about 15 minutes beginning about 10 p.m., said the National Weather Service in Sullivan, Wisconsin, just west of Milwaukee.

"The fireball was seen over the northern sky, moving from west to east," said the NWS in the Quad Cities area, which includes parts of Iowa and Illinois.

"Well before it reached the horizon, it broke up into smaller pieces and was lost from sight," the service said. "Several reports of a prolonged sonic boom were received from areas north of Highway 20, along with shaking of homes, trees and various other objects including wind chimes," it said.

28. Teabagger - someone who hates our government, but can't say why. Should
Armey or Norquist or Rove write it for them, even a single paragraph, ifwouldexpose their bigotry. Their hate applies to Mexicans, Foreigners, and Welfare Queens, plus the President and the audacity of people in this country who voted for him and all foreigners who praise him.

They hate the government means they hate us.

8. Saw it last nite
Was outside smoking and watching the sky. Its a nerd thing I guess lol. But saw a faint glow go across the sky then disappear. Mind you, Monroe is pretty far from places like Iowa, but still was visible.

17. I saw it too!
I live in Central Wisconsin and it lit up the sky coming in from the WNW and went out in a flash before it hit the horizon. It was bright as a full moon and greenish-blue in color with a white center. The show latest but few seconds. The last one I saw from NE Iowa back in 1984(?) and it was centered over Pennsylvania! The meteors in this shower travel about 40 miles a second and are seen entry about 60 down to 40 miles up. This thing probably was the size of a baseball.

39. i must have caught it
pretty high up. it was WNW of me as well. I almost disregarded it as a satellite, but was a bit too bright and could see it flare out. Not like when the sun reflects off of something though.

20. I was on the phone with my son last night
discussing how I could locate Mercury just after sunset. He was outside in Overland Park, Ks, I'm in Santa Fe, and he reported seeing a meteor during the conversation. I was quite jealous, and didn't realize just how big and bright it was until I heard about it on the news this morning.

31. All these replies, yet no one is alarmed?
I'll be the first to ask? What was it? If it was a meteorite, how big was it, where did it hit, and why wasn't it detected? If it was something else, what? Aurora?
