Men in Iraqi army uniforms kill 25 in Sunni area

From Associated Press
April 03, 2010 7:05 AM EDT

BAGHDAD (AP) — Gunmen wearing Iraqi military uniforms raided homes in a Sunni village south of Baghdad, killing 25 people, including five women, execution-style, officials said Saturday.

In the hours after Friday night's shootings, Iraqi officials cordoned off the area to search for suspects and helicopters swarmed overhead.

Most of the dead were members of local Sahwa, or Awakening Councils — one of several names for the Sunni fighters who changed the course of the war when they revolted against al-Qaida in Iraq and joined the Americans in late 2006 and 2007, officials said. The fighters also are also known as Sons of Iraq. The victims were handcuffed and shot, said a police official who asked that his name not be published because he is not authorized to speak publicly.

Many of the Sons of Iraq were former insurgents who later teamed up with the Americans against al-Qaida in Iraq. The move, known as the Awakening, was credited — along with the surge of tens of thousands of U.S. troops — in helping quell the violence.

1. War news? What the hell happened? We're not supposed to have war news?
What? Didn't Sarah Palin's assistant tweet anything yesterday from Sarah's account? Didn't any Democrat snark anything about a Republican or vice versa?

War news? We haven't needed any war news since we abolished the draft. It's nobody's damned business anymore.

Iraq who?

8. Probably the contrary.
Later stories are indeterminate between the uniforms being US or Iraqi, but are clear that the guys in charge are reported to be speaking English and communicating via interpreter.

No word on whether anybody could vouch for the English being native or even native-like.

Wedge.

6. Thank you shrub for bringing democracy to Iraq!
Sure glad we stuck our nose in there. Hell, it only cost us about 5000 American lives, THOUSANDS of disabled American military for life.....tens of billions of dollars we borrowed on our kids from China......

AND WHERE WERE THE F*CKING TEA-BAGGERS????????

7. I'll put that on my list of things to worry about. First there are some Americans who
need assistance and jobs, and the money needed to provide that is being pissed away on foreign adventures.
