Berlin Jews Alarmed By Spate Of Anti - Semitic Attacks
Source: New York Times

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's Jewish community on Monday warned of an "alarming" rise in anti-Semitic violence by Arab and Turkish immigrants after Berlin police reported two unrelated attacks against Jews at the weekend.

"There's an urgent need to fight the roots of anti-Semitism, especially coming from young Turks and Arabs, and to effectively counter it," the Jewish Community in Berlin said in a statement.

"That the violence from the immigrant community is being increasingly aimed at Jews or people they assume are Jews is alarming," it added. A sensitive issue in Germany because of its Nazi past, even relatively minor reports of anti-Semitic violence make the news.

Police reported at the weekend that two women and a man were beaten, struck on the head with beer bottles and insulted by a gang of immigrants in an underground station.

1. Is it coming back?
Are immigrant groups being manipulated into these attacks by far right neo-nazis?

2. In a word, yes
Germany, Russia and Italy in particular have been pretty ugly lately.

4. you forgot the "sarcasm"
muslim immigrants are quite experienced being anti-semitic and they certainly don't need to be tutored by the right wingers. as a matter of fact, it's one thing they can agree on.

5. I highly doubt that immigrant groups would listen to the neo-nazis.
Neo-nazis, and especially their more public-friendly allies in right wing politics make their hay out of attacking Turks (Arabs don't figure as large in Germany).

The American equivalent would be the KKK getting African Americans to attack Jewish people. They'd find no resonance.

More likely is that this violence is related to issues outside of Germany.

6. Neo-Nazis?
Like fundamentalist Islam needs a primer on How To Hate Jews? They have their own well-oiled machinery of anti-Semitic hate with no need for assistance.

7. This is wrong wrong wrong
Muslims should not take it out on individual Jews just because Israel is abusing the human rights of Muslims. Personalizing a conflict this way is wrong, and it can lead to inhuman and racist behavior. Jews living in Germany most likely have nothing to do with the Israelis, and I bet many of them are ashamed of Israel's behavior.

8. Sigh.
Anti-Semitism has fuck-all to do with Israel.

>Jews living in Germany most likely have nothing to do with the Israelis, and I bet many of them are ashamed of Israel's behavior.

And if they aren't? What if they're pro-Israel? Is anti-Semitism OK then?

9. I don't think a lot of it is anti-semitism
Even if they are pro-Israel and live in Germany, they should not be attacked, of course - this is compounding a very evil situation, in which both sides behave in an abusive fashion and destroy their own future. But we know there are many good Jews who oppose the Israeli crimes, such as Mr Weiss, Rabbi Beck, Noam Chomsky, and others, and of course there are Muslims willing to negotiate with Israel, but Israel doesn't wish to negotiate honestly.

Israel's behavior is causing a lot of ill will amongst Muslims. It is well known Osama bin Laden uses Israel's abuses as one of his key recruiting points, and this issue provides young muslims with a lot of zeal in the fight against zionism, which unfortunately spills over into animosity against Jews in general. Osama bin Laden also uses the Israelis' behaviour as a reason for young Muslims to join his organization and fight the American Empire, which is supporting the Israelis.

14. Of course,
All violence is the fault of Americans or Europeans. It can't possibly be that some muslims are capable of anti-semetism without being provoked by Americans or Europeans.
