Staff held Jim Moran back from protesters
Source: Politico

Tea party activists nearly messed with the wrong congressman when they got into it with Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) in his Capitol office Sunday.

Moran, a thickly built Virginian with a temper that runs hot on occasion, was summoned from his inner office by the noise of angry protesters interacting with his staff, according to the congressman's account.

He confronted the protesters, prompting staff to step between them and the activists to ask whether Moran needed "bodyguards" to protect him.

"We're not protecting him from you, we're protecting you from him," a staffer explained, according to Moran.

The teabaggers almost learned the hard way that there are some on our side that really should not be F'ed with.

The TeaBombers might have thought they had enough bodies on their
side of the fight to make it a "fair fight", in their eyes ... until the "bodyguards" showed up.

Maybe they would feel it would be a fair fight if they went one-on-one ... with a quadriplegic 7 year old girl on a gurney ...

4. Weird.
I mean, the article is awesome, and we definitely could use more like this - but it's weird because we had a quarterly meeting at work and there was this really hot guy giving a presentation, and his name was 'Jim Moran'.

when Cunningham called Democrats sissys? IIRC, isn't Moran a former boxer.

Or did he go running for the hills like many GOP blowhards do when actually confronted?

17. I'll be the voice of reason
Last thing we need now is some congressman in a fist fight with a bunch of numskulls. I'd like to let the 20 year old me have a crack at some of these assholes, but we don't need pictures of Dems vs Repubs fighting on tv. It just makes us a version of them.

That's why we need to stop focusing on what they may do or say and just do the correct things ourselves.

30. He's my rep. - I wouldn't worry too much - the story is vague - I doubt Moran came close to
fisticuffs.

He's been in public office a long time and he knows how to handle himself.

He's also in a very blue district.

26. Only RWers, because the are the mostest moral-ist peepuls in the wurld!
If the situation was reversed and LW protestors tried to get into a 'Puggies office, well then there'd be a Free Speech Zone ten blocks away to be herded into, plus a few taserings, beatings and arrests to top it off.

Authoritarian Totalitarianism sucks, especially if you are with the Liberals.

31. Blue - don't fall for the initial story's juicing things up
Edited on Sat Mar-27-10 07:56 PM by spooky3
It's from Politico, which is funded by a right winger. Check out the MANY questionable things Politico has said and done in the past as identified by mediamatters.org.

It's very short on details (I didn't see any evidence that Moran threatened violence), and Moran is NOT an idiot. I doubt very much that anyone was really worried about a fist fight's occurring. The rethuggies were just trying to be provocative.

I just searched the Wa. Post website for the story and couldn't find anything about Moran. The right-leaning editorial division hates Moran and loves to publish anything negative that they can about him--so much so, that they even criticize the voters in his district (their own customers!) for returning him to office, by wide margins, every two years. So I think if there were any legs to this story at all, it would be in the Post.

(from the article):
"Moran once threatened to punch his predecessor, Stan Parris, and has been known to lose his temper at other times."

Stanford Parris just died.
