MSNBC: Stupak Voting 'Yes' On Health Care
moments ago

MSNBC is reporting that Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) is voting "yes" on health care reform, citing "sources."

That would be a huge development. Stupak, a pro-life Democrat who voted for the House health care bill but has consistently said he won't support the Senate bill with its current abortion provisions, claimed earlier today that he controls eight health care votes. So if he switches, that's a big, big switch.

Update 2: And this is why you can't believe every report.

CNN's Evan Glass tweets:

Stupak: "I'm still a no // There is no deal yet. Its a work in progress. Maybe we'll get there today."

Executive Order Details Possibly Leaked
By: David Dayen Sunday March 21, 2010 9:56 am

For the purposes of this legislation, if this satisfies Stupak and his bloc the drama ends, because Pelosi and the team will have the votes to pass.

.....................

BREAKING: House Democrats have picked up critical health reform “yes” votes from a group of anti-abortion lawmakers, including Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, according to senior Democratic aides. Democrats believe a breakthrough with Stupak's group - based on the promise of an executive order to be issued by President Barack Obama reinforcing a ban on federal funding for abortion - will help give them the 216-vote majority needed to pass reform on Sunday. 3. Good. Let's get him on the record, and then toss him
out in the primary later this year.

His fifteen minutes are long up. Time to go, Stupak.

7. I'd like to see her win
Personally, my tent isn't big enough to hold people who think that women's rights don't matter, or that they have a right to interfere with any woman's personal medical decisions.

31. Toss out Stupak or Obama ?
Obama either lied to him about an exec order to eliminate funding for abortion or didn't. I think they could both go...

5. So now we have a mandate AND an executive order..
that entrenches something anti-choice? Pretty expensive stuff for a bill that was stripped of everything progressives want. If this bill is not improved, there will be no real reform. But the reason I want this to pass is that the debate will continue.

8. I wish I felt like they'd learned a lesson from this experience
that the only way to negotiate with the GOP is to offer to allow them to join us - NOT by giving up all our strongest points before the negotiations even begin.

But, hey, they served a purpose.

18. For New Democrats, Republicans may be co-obstructionists
Comprehensive quality public option available to everyone, single payer and a whole heap of other "lefty" reforms were swept off the table by Obama and I have this feeling they couldn't pass insurance profits protection without making it look like it was a long drawn out fight, wearing down both the legislators and average Americans while providing cover for the lobbyists to work their magic and other erosive effects.

35. Exactly. I don't know why any of them didn't see it.
There was simply NO CHANCE of cooperation on anything, for any reason, at all.

So you make some tough speeches, and you go ahead and do what you were put into office to do, and you let them suck on their lemons and make their own speeches.

As people keep saying: elections have consequences.

All our fiddling around may just mean we get schooled in that lesson again after the mid-terms. I hope not, but piddling around with the GOP didn't do a damned thing for the American people or for the Democratic party.

Stupak's district especially needs health care reform. Typical douchebag: Life begins at conception and ends at birth.

How about the already born, Bart? Do they count?

24. Stupak still a 'no' vote on healthcare bill
Source: The Hill

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) is still a no vote, according to his spokeswoman.

In an email to The Hill, Stupak spokeswoman Michelle Begnoche stated, "There is not yet a deal and Congressman Stupak is still a NO vote right now."

At least a couple of news outlets reported Sunday afternoon that Stupak is now a yes vote, having reached a deal with Democratic leaders.

There is intensifying speculation that Democratic leaders will not have the votes unless they strike a deal with Stupak and other anti-abortion rights lawmakers.

That sh*thead is the number one Dem that has to go. All about the unborn, while those already born in his rural district mean nothing to him. What a rotten and despicable excuse for a human being.

this repugnant obstructionist's butt, bigtime.

Despicable, even for a politician. Just repulsive. The worst kind of political hostage taker. And that goes for his pals, too. He doesn't give one genuine damn about the needs of the living. Particularly women.
