Boehner determined to kill Dem health care bill
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The top House Republican says the GOP can defeat the Democratic health care bill that may reach the House floor this coming week.

Ohio Rep. John Boehner says Republicans alone can't stop the legislation. But he says Republicans are "going to do everything we can to make it difficult for them, if not impossible, to pass the bill."

Democrats hold a 253-178 majority in the House and need 216 votes for passage. Republicans are looking for help from some Democrats who are in tough re-election races and may vote "no."

Boehner tells CNN's "State of the Union" that Democrats never made a serious attempt to incorporate Republican ideas -- and only took "a couple of Republican bread crumbs and put them on top of their 2,700-page bill."

13. John, there's a reason we never seriously attempted to incorporate GOP ideas
The only idea you guys had is "let's cut taxes and people will buy their own health insurance."

The GOP has a Legislation Manual with a recommended GOP option for everything. It looks a lot like the Equine Medicine textbook in the old Far Side strip, where shooting was prescribed for every ailment from a broken leg to a runny nose. In the GOP's version, tax cuts are the solution to everything. They'd try fixing a broken Hollandaise by cutting its taxes. The simple fact is, taxes are low enough right now there's no way to use tax cuts for any substantive stimulus, whether it be healthcare, consumer spending or anything else.

under his $1000 suit and tie he has woman's underwear on. He has that creep silent
look of a pervert, let alone an unpatriotic obstructionist.
Hey, look at State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Calif.). Was against gay
rights in public but in private he was tossing salads.
I'm going to post a list of all the sex scandals of our representatives over the past
decade and see how prevalent this problem is.

16. Somebody needs to ask that walking Cheeto "WHY?"
I'm sure the question would be met with slackjawed astonishment as even he has no idea why his party is so dead set against doing anything to help Americans except that they hate Democrats, and it would be political suicide for him to admit to that.

That question needs to be asked of every last one of them.

19. They'll try to have it either way. They always do. If the Dems don't pass the bill, Pubs
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 03:09 AM by No Elephants
yell about 18+months that Dems wasted on a bill that Dems couldn't even agree among themselves to pass.

And if Dems do pass the bill, Pubs run against the substance of the bill, while yelling about 18+months that Dems wasted on a bill that Dems couldn't even agree among themselves to pass, giving them a two-fer.

Either way, they will try to make the Dems seem ineffectual, focused on the wrong subject, etc.

22. As I understand it, Pubs can propose amendments up the yin yang, as long as the
amendments are not meaningless and the Parliamentarian (whoever that is) does not call a halt to it.

But, if I were a Republican, I'd keep that to a minimum.

Meanwhile, I think Democrats should tie the bill TIGHTLY to the economy, jobs and the future of our children and families." Then, lay out the good parts of the bill in crystal clear, concise--and hopefully catchy--language (catchier than "Cornhusker Amendment" and "Louisiana Purchase"). Finally, emphasize that responsible leaders have wanted to do this for about a century, but could not--and that failure, plus the economy made passing this bill absolutely essential.

And, lo, and behold, this Congress and this President did what others needed to do for a century, but couldn 't or wouldn't do--THAT's how hard it was and how historic this is. But this Congress and this President did whatever it took to get this done. And it was worth it.

And they should just keep bragging without stooping to respond to the specific criticisms. If they bog down in that, instead of staying on message, the sound byte ends and the talking heads are not going to give them time to lay out the positives. So, no matter how their segment gets set up, no matter what question gets asked, just lay out the positives.

Oh, and people who choose to have faces the color of a yam should never be taken seriously.

Seriously.

26. Short Memories
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 10:00 AM by LeFleur1
Don't these Republicans know that we were under Republican rule for over eight years (including four when Clinton was Prez) and look where it got us. That's what Democrats should be pointing out. The mess Obama came into was created by Republican ideas carried out. I don't understand why Democrats are being so timid...unless it's in their personal best interests. They should never allow anyone in America to forget where Republican ideas, carried out, put us.

29. Sure, right after I finish proving that water is wet.
In the meantime, why don't you take a look at the "Latest" or "Greatest" links (helpfully positioned along the top next to the DU logo) and see if you can spot any of the hundred or so anti-passage threads. You might need to take some preparatory measures such as connecting to the internet and/or opening your eyes.
