Reports: Al Qaeda leader killed in Yemen
January 13, 2010 6:17 a.m. EST

(CNN) -- The leader of an al Qaeda cell in Yemen has been killed in clashes with security forces, the Yemeni government said Wednesday.

Abdullah al-Mehdarhad, whose name is also spelled as al-Mihdar, led a cell in the Habban region of Yemen's Shabwa province, according to 26sep.net, the Web site for the Yemeni military.

It cited an official source in the Interior Ministry, who said the al Qaeda leader was killed during an exchange of fire with security forces.

Four al Qaeda suspects were arrested in the Maifah district of the same province, the state-run SABA news agency reported.

4. It is AN al-queda leader not THE al-queda leader....and who knows how many
"leaders" there are.

I'm so sick of this over the past 9 years with a different "al-queda" leader killed about once a week.

15. Are you implying that our intelligence services had nothing to do with AlQaeda
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 11:58 AM by Mithreal
Those who ignore history and all, you know. I really thought it was common knowledge to DU'ers at least of our ties to terrorism.

May want to check out the BBC documentary, The Power of Nightmares. It has been a while since I watched it but it explains AlQaeda was a CIA invention.

Others taking me seriously is not something I have necessarily set as a goal of mine.

Edit spelling.

5. I'd sure like this to be good news, but I have to wonder if this guy was low hanging fruit
It sure seems like news of major al-Qaeda players getting killed is coming in more frequently under Obama than it was under Mr "I don't really think about Osama bin Laden that much." But the real problem won't be reduced until there's a regional order stability over there that cuts off their supply of young recruits.

7. Tell Pete Hoekstra on CSPAN
I can't stand this Republican BS. He is blaming the underware bomber on Obama by saying that he didn't recognize the Ft. Hood attack as a Terror Attack. (that is not actually true, but they lie, they lie, they lie.)

8. Well, then. Problem solved.
Because killing their leaders always works. It scares everyone else off, and the terrorists give up.

13. They got Emmanuel Goldstein AGAIN?
How many times does this make that they killed him?

7,678, or 7,689?

What does this mean for Chocolate Rations?

Will it affect the Season Premiere of Idol?

18. They'll just recruit another leader from the al-Qaeda in the northern hemisphere chapter.
If a new #2 isn't unavailable, there may be one from the al-Qaeda of the East African Rift Zone chapter.
