Microsoft facing European sanctions
http://money.cnn.com/2004/03/14/technology/microsoft_europe.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Microsoft has broken European Union antitrust law and could face sanctions and hundreds of millions of dollars in fines, according to a draft decision expected to win endorsement on Monday from an advisory committee to the 15 EU states.

The European Commission draft requires Microsoft to share proprietary information with rival server makers and to provide computer manufacturers with a second version of Windows stripped of built-in audiovisual software, people familiar with the case said.

That would go further than the steps Microsoft had to take when it settled an antitrust case in the United States in late 2001.

3. Does Linux actually work?
Over a dozen failed attempts in the last decade, and every time I'm almost done, it reports that I have one piece of unsupported hardware or another ... and now the Santa Cruz Organization (SCO) is going to start asking for money for it.

I can't understand why everybody complains about how bad Windows is. It's always been reasonably stable for me, and Win2k is nearly bulletproof.

I also wonder why we have a well-developed open-source *NIX, but nothing equivalent for Windows ... or better yet, a multi-OS environment that has full APIs for Windows, *NIX, Mac and other semi-popular systems.

Oh, well ... it's not like I'll ever be employed as a code jockey again ...

4. I'll believe Microsoft faces sanctions when it really happens,
and not before.
