New Jersey gay marriage bill clears state Senate Judiciary Committee; full Senate vote is next
Source: NY Daily News

TRENTON, N.J. - A bill to legalize gay marriage cleared the state Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday, paving the way for a full Senate vote Thursday.

Monday night's committee vote, after about seven hours of debate, was 7-6.

New Jersey is the best chance for proponents to add a sixth state allowing same-sex unions. Proponents want the bill passed quickly because Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine has said he'd sign it before leaving office. Republican Gov.-elect Chris Christie, who takes office Jan. 19, has said he'd veto it.

A similar measure was voted down last week in the New York state Senate. Last month, voters in Maine overturned a law that was enacted this year to allow same-sex marriages but never took effect.

1. all NJ DUers must call their state senators
once now, and for the rest of the week. Call them off the hook, get your friends/family to call them. This is a fight we can win.

4. Your list is the Jusdiciary committee, which narrowly moved the bill.
Those that voted in our favor should definitely get a 'thank you' call tomorrow, since they will most likely be voting again on Thursday.

8. Hasnt Christie said he'll veto if it passes?
Same with medical mj i believe. Any socially progressive legislation in NJ faces an uphill battle for the next 4 years.
