Blair 'not aware Iraq war was illegal'
Source: bigpondnews

Tony Blair has denied a report that the British government's chief legal adviser told him that deposing Saddam Hussein would contravene international law.

Asked by CNN television whether an allegation was true that then-attorney-general Peter Goldsmith was 'gagged' after trying to dissuade Blair from lending Britain's support to the US-led war, the former prime minister responded: 'No, it's not.'

'But I think the best thing with this inquiry is actually to let us all give our evidence to the inquiry,' Blair said, responding to a question about the report in Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper.

The newspaper wrote that ministers were secretly told at a July 23, 2002 cabinet meeting that the United States and Britain were set on 'regime change' in Iraq and that Goldsmith, who attended the meeting, strongly expressed his disagreement with the policy in a July 29 letter he wrote to Blair.

In the letter, Goldsmith pointed out that war could not be justified purely on the grounds of 'regime change', the newspaper reported.

25. Transcript of Super Secret Energy Committe Meetings (Eyes Only Super Hush Hush)
Cheney: I hope you all enjoyed the roasted kittens.

Assembled Energy Cabal(Nodding in unison): Mmmmm..nom nom nom.

Cheney: Ok, the reason I ordered you all here was to let you in on small policy matter.

(Assembled Energy Cabal snaps to attention)

Cheney: First. Plan on having the best Q4 you've ever had, and transfer 5% off the top into this Swiss account. Second. Stay out of NYC this coming September. Particularly on and immediately after the 11th.

ExxonMobil Energy Cabal Rep: Mr. President..

Cheney: Thanks, but you need to say "vice". Carry on.

Exxon Energy Cabal Rep: Yes. Erm. Mr. "Vice" President, what's all this about um (checks notes) September 11th?

Cheney: Look, just do as I say and no one gets hurt. Also, as an addendum, just plan on not flying at all on September 11th. Any wives, girlfriends, mistresses, or annoying whistleblowers that you need to, shall we say, kill, get them on one of these four flights.

Chevron Oil Cabal Rep: Sire, You are most kind and generous.

Cheney: Start getting your logistics in order to vastly expand your presence in the middle east. Particularly, how to say this, aw hell. We're taking over Iraq. Cabal dismissed.

28. He's such a liar. The whole topic of the illegality of the war
was openly discussed and I'm sure someone can dig up news video of Blair being asked about it. I remember eg, how there was a lot of discussion about how Blair had to be way more careful about his legal position if he supported it, than Bush because Britain had not withdrawn from International treaties, as Bush had in preparation for the crimes he was about to commit.

It would be nice to see some justice being done, but I doubt anything will happen to Blair. The US will back him up for his loyalty to Bush.

It will take some outside, non-partisan organization to get any justice for the victims of the crimes of Bush/Cheney/Blair et al. Neither the US or Britain will ever admit to the crimes.
