For 3rd time, Woods cancels meeting with police (we have a statement)
Edited on Sun Nov-29-09 07:57 PM by underpants
Source: Fox Sports

"This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me," Woods said on his Web site. "I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again."

"Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible," he said. "The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false."

"We have been informed by the Florida Highway Patrol that further discussion with them is both voluntary and optional," Mark Steinberg, his agent at IMG, said in an e-mail. "Although Tiger realizes that there is a great deal of public curiosity, it has been conveyed to FHP that he simply has nothing more to add and wishes to protect the privacy of his family."

Woods' wife turned troopers away from their home in the exclusive gated community outside Orlando on Friday, the day of the accident, because she said he was sleeping. Steinberg called troopers en route to Woods' house on Saturday and postponed the meeting until Sunday.

Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred (oh JOY!!!) confirmed she was representing Uchitel when she was reached by the AP on Sunday.

"She is with me in L.A.," Allred said later in an e-mail to the AP. "We plan to meet and then we'll decide on the next step, which we do not plan to announce to the press."

26. Anybody who gives a care about this story needs to re-evaluate their priorities
Tiger Woods had a minor traffic accident outside his home. No crime was committed. Nobody was hurt except Tiger Woods. People need to have a good look in the mirror and stop worrying so much about what is happening to Tiger Woods. It is, frankly, nobody's business but his.

I'm glad he's starving the tabloid newz media, they deserve to be given the finger as does anybody else who thinks they have a right to know what Tiger Woods is up to at two AM.

29. anybody who DOESN'T give a care abt woods getting a walk on DUI needs to wake up
i know of several cases of folks arrested for DUI for an accident in their own driveway or, in a couple of cases, homeless guys who weren't driving but were simply sleeping in their own damn car

sorry i'm done with the rich, who can afford to pay the outrageous fees assoc. w. DUI accidents that don't hurt anyone -- getting a fucking walk -- while the people who are truly hurt by the cruel and harsh penalties -- get nailed to the wall

that's my fucking priority, i believe the law should be the same for rich and poor alike, i do realize that in america this will never fucking happen but we should at least speak up and express our anger when we see this kind of crap going down

it AIN'T fucking ok if you're a republican, it AIN'T fucking ok if you're a billionaire, in fact, it should be LESS ok because you can afford a fucking driver, the rest of us can't

one of my friends actually went to jail in pennsylvania in a one car accident, hitting a tree, NO ONE ELSE was hurt except him, but he didn't go to a fucking hospital and then get his ass kissed by the state police, they took him to jail

yes, i'm fucking pissed

if you don't like the law, change it for everyone, not just for tiger fucking woods

if his wife was a hero trying to stop him from driving off wasted -- although why she tried to stop him w. a fucking golf club is another question -- she should be a real hero and put him in a rehab, that's what would happen to any of us who drove up our neighbor's trees...

2. If he had been a nobody living in West Chester Ohio and this had happened ..
.... then his wife wife would have been under investigation for assault and he would be looking
@ a DUI and reckless op charge. Must be nice to live in a neighborhood w/ your own private
police.

4. I've read several reports that he was under the influence of pain medication
No doubt he had been told not to drive when taking the medicine, and he probably had no plans to be out in the middle of the night and so he took his dosage to relieve the pain of his injury.

Of ccurse he hadn't planned on having to flee for his safety from his own home, chased by his own wife.

22. reports are he was on pain meds and was kinda of passing out when the ...
.... police responded to the accident. The longer he waits to talk to the police
the less chance that the drugs will still be in his system.

6. My take.
Wifey got mad after reading reports of his dabbling around, went after him with a golf club. He sloppily sped out of the house and hit the fire hydrant. She took a swing at the back window.

Apologies to Tiger fans if I turn out to be wrong. Just supposin'.

8. I hope everything works out for him..
..my only concern is the fact it always seems the rich have their own set of rules and a justice system they can take full advantage of, while the rest of us schmucks would have the book thrown at us for something like this.

Maybe not in this case, but I suspect had most of wrecked our car into a fire hydrant and tree, the police would be a lot more eager to charge us with something. The circumstances do seem kinda odd from what I have read.

Anyway, I hate the whole celebrity culture we are in where everyone hangs on everything celebrities do. Tiger is a huge asset to the sport of golf and a hero to many, so I will just hope for the best for he and his family.

9. let's deconstruct that well-devised statement...
Okay, I have too much time on my hands. But if someone was gonna tell the truth, you'd just come right and and say it - publicly. Not 'issue a statement' which has likely been run by numerous sources to be 'technically true' without revealing the whole truth. Don't ya just hate it when folks can't face a question with a direct answer?

• "This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me," - no denial of affair or fight, just that he takes responsibility for causing this.

• "I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again." - would almost be impossible to have it 'happen again'; pointless comment

• "Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible" - only notes that the 'false rumors' are irresponsible... but not saying they are all false, nor that there was an affair or fight as noted in various news sites.

• "The only person responsible for the accident is me." - technically true, as the driver, his foot was on the pedal.

• "My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble." - can be referring to after the accident, after seeing what had occurred - this does not say she didn't attack physically prior to when he was actually hurt and in trouble after the car hit, only refers to 'when she saw I was hurt and in trouble'.

• "She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false." - technically true, since she was there after the crash... and would be still be true even if she was also the first person to try to hurt him as well.

• "We have been informed by the Florida Highway Patrol that further discussion with them is both voluntary and optional" - we know our right to remain silent

• "Although Tiger realizes that there is a great deal of public curiosity, it has been conveyed to FHP that he simply has nothing more to add and wishes to protect the privacy of his family." - by issuing this weak statement, we think this will end conjecture because the press will take this bone and run away and leave us be. Does believing this show we underestimate the press?

okay, I'm done - spaghetti is done... I guess I didn't waste too much time.

10. TMZ reporting conversation with Tiger - he needed a 'Kobe Special'
Just an update from TMZ -

Tiger told his friend during a phone conversation on Friday, "I have to run to Zales to get a 'Kobe Special.'" The person on the other end of the phone asked Tiger what a "Kobe Special" was. The reply -- "A house on a finger." During the conversation, Tiger said his wife had "gone ghetto" on him. TMZ reports Woods told the friend his wife had scratched his face up during an argument over a report that the golf great had cheated on her.

11. the car backed up and
I think the wife was practicing golf using two clubs one in each hand and tiger backed-up by mistake and the car entered the golf clubs the wife was swinging.
The wife is not only very attractive but she knows how to use golf clubs at least as well as her husband!

14. if he was an ordinary person, he'd have to answer questions about a suspected domestic assault.
there are so many holes in the story. Either he's wacked out on drugs, or she beat him with said golf club.

Domestic abuse or aggravated assualt conviction might get her a one way ticket back to Sweden under immigration laws if still a resident alien if memory serves me correctly.

34. When you have a tenant in a dwelling you don't have the same rights as if you lived there
If the neighbor was in fact renting from Woods it was still his domicile. He is protected from Woods or his wife extending a domestic dispute into their front yard.
