Senators: Take action against White House crashers
Source: AP via Yahoo! News

WASHINGTON – Two senators say authorities ought to pursue criminal charges against the Virginia couple who crashed last week's state dinner at the White House.

Democrat Evan Bayh of Indiana and Republican Jon Kyl of Arizona say such behavior should be strongly discouraged.

Any and all possible charges should be filed. They should also be banned from making any profit from the so called "story".

1. Would the charges be lying to or misleading a federal official?
I think they should be prosecuted.....we don't need crazies getting ideas that crashing a dinner at the WH is good idea. And the agents that let them slip by ought to be fired immediately.

2. Actually, yes - that's one of the more serious possible charges.
It is also why there hasn't been much information out of the SS. They have to conduct an investigation without blabbing every detail if they want to make a case. I'm sure there are a lot of other things they can be charged with and I hope every last one results in charges. They should NOT be allowed to make money from this. That's beyond evil.

Isn't the woman a contestant for the Real Wives of DC trainwreck series? That's the onyl reason they wanted in - to make money from the little adventure.

Are you aware of how many crazies in this country want the President dead? Have you paid attention to that at all?

50. I agree. If fact, I always wonder where my invitation
to the party is. I'm sure it got lost in the mail. I guess I am a communist but many times it occurs to me that we, the great unwashed, elect these people to public office and then we treat them like royalty and we, in the meantime, are treated like peasants.

14. Well, no.
I fear you haven't understood the underlying premise of the objection to female objectification terminology as an insult.

See, the use of "bitches" to demean men is because being called female in any way is, of course, an insult in a patriarchal society such as ours.

Which is again saying that being a female is being something less.

9. I don't care what they do to the crashers. I just want
them to fix the security and prevent any future occurrences. Some heads should be rolling in the Secret Service. Imagine what might have happened in this instance. That skinny blonde was shaking hands with President Obama. What if she had a ceramic knife in her undies?

We were lucky...this time...we may not be the next time.

I'm serious. There should be several people fired and a new protocol put in place for such gatherings. This was unforgivable.

17. We go through all of the anxiety about terrorists in this country, all of the intrusive
airport checks, for example, on and on, the hand wringing and whining, and then where it would be deemed necessary and intelligently managed the weaknesses are exploited like in 911.

I can only imagine what Herbert Hoover would have done with them by now... in fact in earlier years they well might not have gotten past the most minuscule WH check point. I agree so much, "There should be several people fired and a new protocol put in place for such gatherings. This was unforgivable."

40. I call bull on the Hoover point - until FDR & WWII, anyone in this country could go to the WH
and sit down and talk to the president. Anybody! You knock, or in some administrations, one could just walk into the WH, because it is the People's House. When Pearl Harbor happened, SS stopped people from just showing up. The President was obligated to talk to whomever stopped by. In the olden days, everybody had an At Home day, where people came to visit, same with the President.

Watch The President's on History Channel in chronilogical order - very interesting.

45. Oops, sorry... we were talking about the depression on a different DU string. I
meant J. Edgar Hoover, not Herbert Hoover. I watched some of the The President's on History Channel, yes, very interesting! Quite true, the WH was certainly quite open in earlier years. Too bad it still can't be.

25. Good point. I think we're going down a rat hole with this escalation, given the country, its
history, political and governmental structure, and economy. I think the money would be better spent here at home. We have a country here in need of very serious attention.

Having lived through the Vietnam area I have grave reservations when someone is telling me an endless war is really good and escalating it is really deescalating it... I see the war profiteers making out well and the rest not so well IMO.

In fact, I think the US would do far better with LESS intervention in other countries. Often our foreign policy really sucks.

I'm not sure there would be any way to legally prevent the couple from making money from the story, but it would be worth looking at the possibility.

Total SKANK couple imo.

27. ridiculous.
doesn't the WH have a guest list for these events?

I bet Pres. Obama is utterly totally furious. His safety is certainly a serious concern, but more than anything, he's got to be worried sick about the safety of his daughters.

I'm more upset with the Secret Service than that couple. Their actions were despicable, but they did us a favor by exposing a very serious vulnerability in the President's security detail.

pug Senators. The fault dear Brutus lies not in the stars, but in the SS; On the premise that; Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong; The punishment lies at the steps of the SS and the folks handling the guests and who and how they are allowed to matriculate. I say more power to these kids and I hope it brings them good fortune. After the horse gets out of the barn you don't punish the horse, you punish the thing that allowed the horse to get out of the barn. Punishing these harmless folks is about the dumbest thing I can imagine...they should be given a medal or be even made a knight (set to music) for exposing the shoddy and very dangerous protection of the President. Now, at least, they will cover their asses and not allow this to happen again; That is an invaluable lesson to be learned and it may have saved the presidents life after all is said and done. The Pugs are angry because now they will not get any more chances as this loophole has been closed, thanks to these two harmless thrill seekers.
