White House crashers named in 16 civil suits
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) -- The Virginia couple accused of crashing President Obama's first White House state dinner on Tuesday are named in at least 16 different civil suits in Fauquier County, sometimes as plaintiffs, sometimes as defendants.

A trawl through court records on Thursday revealed a more complete picture of Tareq and Michaele Salahi, who have left an extensive paper trail in federal bankruptcy and state court filings.

19. Yep, laws were broken...

...and need to be enforced evenly. If you give them an inch, they will try to take a mile. While we do not know much about the couple that crashed the event, the fact is that they violated the integrity. When an exploit or abuse of privilege is discovered, soon every Tom, Dick and teabagger will be itching do the same thing, albeit without such seemingly docile behavior. That being said, the couple in question put the onus upon themselves to be made an example of. It is one thing to crash someone's wedding, it is another thing to crash such a high security function.

29. really WHAT LAW was broken? it is not illegal to crash a party
Edited on Fri Nov-27-09 03:08 PM by pitohui
IF the law was broken, it was broken by someone not doing their job, but for your info there is no law against crashing parties, sorry dude

what the hell is the matter w. people?

i'm sorry the secret service fucked up, and those individuals who didn't check the guest list at the time of the event and do the screening right need to be reprimanded/written up/ or even shit-canned but it is not illegal to crash a party

the white house belongs to the american people, even i myself have wandered about there before in days gone by

"every tom, dick, and teabagger" couldn't have crashed because the ignorant racist redneck boobs who would be dangerous (and yes it's a class issue but it is what it is) would not know how to dress or to behave in order to attend a high level function -- the minute they opened their mouth they would be busted

these folks have gonads, they weren't hurting anyone, they fit in just fine, and they were having fun and they got to attend a nice party

we've all crashed parties, it ain't and shouldn't ever be a crime

jeez i can't believe the baying for blood on this site sometimes

if i was obama, i'd invite them back, it would be more fun than the "beer summit" -- call it the "champagne summit"

they can be charged. Federal law makes it a crime to knowingly and willfully falsify statements on matters within the federal government's jurisdiction.

6. Everyone thinks they're entitled.........
to their 15 minutes of fame. If you're on TV, you're famous! We can thank the media and the Paris Hiltons, Lindsey Lohans, Britney Spears, Jason Timberlakes, Joey Buttafucos etc. etc. etc. for this cavalcade of cretins being crammed down our craws.

"Reality" TV is an abomination that needs to die a quick, preferably painful death. There is absolutely nothing real about reality TV.

25. ... its the way to have a "career" and get paid to just "be" ...
... Paris, Nicole et al started the trend ... they're basically talentless but for some reason the media has foisted them (and the Kardashians, Hogans, Lamas', Flavor Flav's and Ray J's) on us and told us that they're 'glamorous' and leading the posh life we all want to live ... and unfortunately, some people whose heads are still stuck in the 80's (like this couple, I suspect) think thats their ticket to more wealth, fame and glory too.

30. because people need to earn, what gives w. pretending there is a mystery here?
Edited on Fri Nov-27-09 03:14 PM by pitohui
people who are daring, people who dream, people who have the courage to do something fun and spectacular to win attention deserve attention

the boy in the balloon was a hoax, that's a little different -- these people hoaxed no one, they actually went to the party, they didn't photoshop their pix w. biden on facebook -- THEY DID IT

these people put on their clothes and their party manners and they went through the screening and they attended the party like anyone else, and that shouldn't be a crime just because most of us are so cowardly we'd rather sit on our couch and do nothing to promote ourselves

there is little money in this world, times are tough all over, and only the brave and the bold will survive

when the brave and bold turns their attention to being on TV, it harms none and it entertains some

when the brave and the bold turn to selling drugs, it may be a more sure way of getting the $$$ but it harms me, it harms my community, it harms all of us with the violence that results

there is nothing wrong with boldness being channeled toward "the stage"

everyone can't have talent but everyone has to eat, it's clear from all these lawsuits and bankruptcies that they've had $$$ problems, would you prefer they just starve and go away quietly, well, what will you do when you need to eat? oh right you figure it will never happen to you so there's no need to understand

i applaud anyone who finds a non violent harmless way to get lots of $$$ and attention, if i don't like reality TV here's a clue -- i don't watch it!!!

23. It was not primarily the Secret Service at fault here
The responsibility for only letting approved guests in rests primarily with the WH Social Secretary and their department. The Secret Service is there to protect the president, his family, and foreign dignitaries. It is not their responsibility to police the whole WH during a party like that for anything that anyone might do to any other guest.

11. Well, the "favor" they did can be rewarded by a all-expense paid
stay in a federal prison for a few years, I believe.

That horrible dress can be auctioned off to pay for court costs.

I agree, there was a security flaw that evening. But let's reward all these attention whores of America with
some extra time for them to be doing community service when they earn parole, cleaning public toilets, serving meals to the homeless, picking up litter on the highways.

First and foremost, a good stiff sentence in jail.

This stuff must stop.

14. i see several folks calling
for this couple to be tossed in jail.

to them, i ask: what, specific, laws did they break? the worst thing i could think of is trespassing but as they were allowed in by duly authorized security that might be a tough conviction to get.

the fact that this article is so incredibly detailed as to their peccadilloes says to me that they broke no substantive laws so they must pay with their, not insignificantly stained, reputations.

39. How about you try to respect the rest of the people on this planet
before you lecture us about national security and how we ought to let people just do stupid things and get away with it?

You really need to get off that high horse and use the brains you were given.

Grifters who relish this type of publicity, int trouble with the courts dozens of times already in their young lives.

When is is OKAY to put criminals in jail and when do you want to let them roam free?

These people have already behaved in a way you would never approve, yet you give them a pass, want to encourage this sort of thing.

They did it, proof positive on video, put the idiots in jail and give them a chance to learn to think.

If you still feel that they "only" crashed a party, you have less than normal intelligence and respect for the dignitaries who were honored by their invitation that night. Sorry you are so disrespectful to so many Americans as to call us "mentally ill" for sticking up for our President, his guests, our national security, and your freedom to do the right thing and take responsibility.

These people are probably sociopaths--they think nothing of cheating people out of substantial sums of money. If you read the entire article, it goes on and on about the various frauds and scams they have perpetuated.

Not every sociopath is a serial killer. Some are like Madoff, who just take people's money as they go through life.

I hope they throw the book at them.

One more point: the common thread with this and balloon boy is these people appear to be not so bright. They fail to think through their schemes and they fail to realize that their backgrounds will be checked.
