George W. Bush presidential library plans unveiled

George W. Bush's political leanings are certainly more right than left, so one might have expected his presidential library to be an exercise in lock-step traditionalism.

Yet the plans unveiled Wednesday are more complicated than that, even if they are by no means as boldly modern as the bridge-inspired William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum in Little Rock, Ark.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center, as the place will be called, will evoke but not imitate the Georgian architecture of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where it will be built.

The design, by New York City architect Robert A.M. Stern, calls for the building's almost abstract exterior to be faced in brick and Texas limestone, with a flat-topped cupola.

Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 12:47 AM by Submariner
The Abu Ghraib torture display should take up most of the room.

17. Chicken Hawk Cheney....
You are SO right, Maegan1979...!!!
We DEFINITELY need a change from the morons who let 9-11 happen...
You know... Bush, Rice, Cheney, Rumsfield....
Especially when they were warned by a memo entitled:
"Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States,"
shortly before it happened...
Was there EVER a more sorry excuse for a presidential administration,
than that of george w. bush...???
Not hardly....!!!
Katrina.... Iraq..... Afghanistan..... The failure to capture Bin Laden....
Whatever "strategery" the bush administration was using, it sure didn't work....
Corrupt, dishonest, cowardly, you name it...
they were that, and then some....
Hey...
Wait a minute....
You ARE talking about the bush administration, aren't you....??
Holy cow....
Do you realize it's 2009 now, and not 2005...??
G-E-E-Z...
You REALLY should get a new calendar...!!!
LOL...!!!
:)

21. This library will no doubt become a center for scholarship and intellectual study of policy issues.
The greatest of America's future thinkers will congregate there to learn everything they can about the policy and philosophy of George W. Bush

. . . and then shake their heads in dismay.

26. University Park residents criticize plans for Bush library, Chase Bank rezoning
12:00 AM CST on Wednesday, November 11, 2009

By LORI STAHL / The Dallas Morning News
lstahl@dallasnews.com

University Park residents packed City Hall on Tuesday for their first chance to vent about plans to build the Bush presidential library at Southern Methodist University and redevelop the southern part of Snider Plaza ...

Inside, the marathon session produced one common theme: All the speakers saw the proposed developments as a traffic problem or a threat to the look and feel of their residential neighborhoods.

Many of those who spoke to the Planning and Zoning Commission were homeowners. Some who live near SMU Boulevard, the site of the future presidential center, said the current library plan will create a tourist invasion in the neighborhood.

"We think other options should be explored," said one woman who lives on Dyer Street. "The safety of the children will be compromised, and our security will be lost" ...

11/18/2009

By JAMIE STENGLE / Associated Press

Former first lady Laura Bush has unveiled the design of the George W. Bush Presidential Center planned for the Southern Methodist University campus.

The design calls for a modern brick and limestone building compatible with the American Georgian architecture of the SMU campus and will be set amid a landscape of Texas wildflowers and prairie.

Architect Robert A. M. Stern joined the former president and his wife at the unveiling ceremony on Wednesday ...

I'm curious to see the floor plan and elevations. Glad to see they are going to attempt to gain a platinum LEED rating for the building though.
