Yale to Lieberman: Please reconsider your stance on the healthcare bill
Source: Capitol Watch

About 650 members of the Yale University community -- students, faculty and staff -- signed a letter urging Sen. Joseph Lieberman, a Yale grad, to reverse course on the health care bill.

Lieberman has said he opposes any healthcare bill that includes a government-funded insurance option and has threatened to filibuster any plan that includes such a provision.

"It is time to pass comprehensive health care reform to reduce costs and premiums, expand coverage, increase competition, and ban discrimination based on pre-existing conditions. A public option is an essential element of such reform,'' the letter states.

The letter went on to cite Lieberman's supprt of various efforts to expand and improve healthcare, from measures that promote biomedical research to those that address inequalities in access to care among minorities.

"As faculty, staff, and students at Yale University, we hope you will remember and honor this history of advocacy, and continue to fight on our behalf,'' the letter concludes.

1. I don't know why they
waste their breath. It should be apparent to all by now that Lieberman simply has not a shred of integrity. And the same could be said for a large part of the senate.

3. I really don't believe that they actually think they are going to influence the asshole. They are
simply expressing their stance on the issue.

They can state that position and not frame it as asking him to do anything. That way, they simply put forth their view and say they disagree with him.

"Begging" him to change his mind is useless and only gives him a thrill.

7. It is still a good thing. Declaring what he is doing wrong is always good.
helps to isolate him. helps his constituents to perhaps rebel and try to recall him, for example?

9. Yale is his alma mater
for undergrad and law school and I expect that he may enjoy attending their "special events" but they may decide that he is no longer welcome. ;)

12. Probably won't hurt; might help
At the very least, it gives some additional exposure to "the other side," so that the nonsense that "I've never met or heard from anyone in favor of the public option or single payer" gets squelched right away. Who knows? Joe might feel obliged to respond, and I think that would only hurt him.

11. We need to point out to LIEberman that the
people of CT want the public option. Our state legislature passed a law this year that will establish a public option for CT.

He's not fooling anyone with his posturing. He is not representing the will of the people he was elected represent.

13. Yalie to Lieberman: Drop dead
You're nearly as much of a disgrace to the Eli as George W. Bush '68.
