Computer glitch delaying flights

A computer glitch shut down most, if not all, departing flights at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and other airports across the country Thursday morning.

One passenger said a Delta Air Lines gate agent announced that the computer problem would not allow pilots to retrieve flight plans, and that no planes were taking off.

Bergen said the problem was affecting flights that had not yet taken off and that air traffic controllers "have radar coverage and communications with planes" already in the air.

She did not know how many airports were affected, but said the problem "is much more widespread than just Atlanta."

This was reported a few minutes ago on the MSNBC Morning Joe show.

Mika said the reports indicated flights around the country were affected.

ATLANTA -- An FAA computer in Atlanta failed Thursday morning, causing flight delays at airports across the country, including Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, WSB-TV Channel 2 has confirmed.

Delta officials confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that the airline is experiencing delays across the country. The problem is causing delays for other airlines nationwide.

"There will be major delays and cancellations throughout the day," Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliot warned.

2.  if they's stop spending millions harassing customers via TSA
and instead rebuild infrastructure, not only would flying be more pleasant, but stuff like this wouldn't happen.

3. Looks like all arrivals in Atlanta are set back to 10 a.m. Eastern

Good luck on flying to wherever you're going.

Joe S.' first reaction to Mika was, "You mean we won't be able to fly to New Orleans today?

5. I'm in St. Louis trying to connect in Atlanta
to get home to Ft. Lauderdale. My flight now has been cancelled. Waiting for the new flight time and connection. Probably won't get home until tomorow now.

Let me rant a minute about complete asshole douchebag peopple who are screaming at the gate agents like it is their fault the computer crashed in Atlanta. These people are beyond lower than life. Like they have more important stuff than I or anyone else has to do. Please, for the love of egg salad, if you fly and something goes wrong don't rip the gate agents a new ass. It is 95% never their fault.

9. Sorry, I'm not screwed....
...DL 1902 took off on time from Denver and will arrive early at ATL. ATC's flight planning system occasionally has these glitches (like all relational database systems).

Oh, and I'm writing this while airborne. Thank you Delta for the onboard Wifi.

10. I went through Atlanta last week
Let me take this opportunity to state that this airport has the craziest way of handling incoming baggage i have EVER seen.

They give you it back, and then take it back off you again and make you wait again for it at a carousel that is in a public area. Anyone can come in off the street and take off with luggage, or even deposit a case containing a bomb onto a carousel and let it go round and round for 20 or minutes while they make their escape.

Why ?
