Republicans threaten to block terror trials
Source: Wash Times

House Republicans say they'll make Democrats feel the political heat for President Obama's decision to try Sept. 11 attack plotters in U.S. civilian courts by trying to force a vote on a bill to block those trials.

Republicans will launch a discharge petition -- which means if a majority of House members sign on, then the bill would automatically be brought to the floor for a vote, despite the objections of Democratic leaders who control the chamber's schedule.

House Minority Leader John Boehner, Ohio Republican, said the Obama administration's decision to move 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others suspected of planning the Sept. 11 attacks from the Guantanamo Bay detention site to civilian courts in the United States shows Democrats are "out of touch."

"It really begs the question of what is the administration's overarching strategy to fight the terrorists and keep Americans safe. We haven't seen that overarching strategy yet," Mr. Boehner said.

11. And if the Dems in DC were smart that is the ONLY thing any of them would say to reporters
for the next several days.

The pukes have demonstrated how powerful a unified message can be. (Even when it's dead wrong)

There's no need for absurd GOP-esque hyperbole that any thinking person would dismiss. Just tell it like it is. The GOP will do ANYTHING at all to stop this president from having a triumph (too late...we won!) Also one might bring up the fear of what misdeeds and bungles the Bush Administration tap danced through and kept from us these trials will bring up. Both of these points are purely political and unconnected with justice (except the Bushies' comeuppance) or what is good for America. And at this point Dems can add that Repugs will even question the US judicial system's ability to even work... in an area with a 95% success rate. They sound like the USSR or something... Iran maybe!

5. Is there anything
those assholes wont block? I mean shit, if we can't paint the GOP as a bunch of do nothing fucking obstructionists for the next two or three elections we don't deserve to hold power.

I am getting mighty sick of them and the time they make everyone waste sitting around while people go without insurance or can't find a job.

We need to hang every negative around their necks like a band of dead albatross (albatrosses? albatrosi?).

Damnit I hate them.

8. Let me get this straight
If the republicans want to stop a trial from being happening, all they have to do is propose this bill. So what the hell are they afraid of. Oh yeah I know, Bush and Cheney's and THEIR COMPLICITY in authorizing torture. And don't think all that will be brought up.

What I can't understand is this. How does a military trial trump a civilian trial. The attack of the Twin Towers happened before the military was involved. And it happened because of the ineptitude of the Bush administration.

I wish the media had the spine to really go in to depth as to why republicans don't want this trial in New York, and want it secret in a military court.

I think we should all send bonehead an email asking him what in the hell he is afraid of. Did he serve in any military action. Guess I'll check and see. And by the way he won't accept an email unless it is from his district.

So go to his site find out what part of Ohio he covers, pick out a city and zip code and then you can send it with the rest of your info if you want. I went to yahoo and got an email account. It's free. Then in these situations I just give that address. The won't accept an invalid email address and I am sure you don't want his filthy trash junking up you regular email.

18. We haven't seen that overarching strategy yet," Mr. Boehner said.
Uh...it's to
a) not be looking the other way or at personal interests when dealing with terrorists (like 9/11 for instance... or Iraq)

and

b) to use the rule of law, and not gallivant around with a hardon making procedures up based on a TV show with Kiefer Sutherland.

Got it... Senator BONE-ER?

22. Rebubbalickins have now officially ceased to perform any useful purpose in government.
They're the kidney stone that will not pass. The splinter that, no matter how fine the tweezers, burrows itself in deeper. The turd that gets stuck halfway in and halfway out.

IOW, they're a joke. But you'll note that no one is laughing anymore.

I know the Repukes are very interested in scaring voters again for 2010, but they're going a bit overboard with their "Party of No!!" BS.

What war exactly are the Republicans trying to wage? The "War on Terror" is gone. These people don't have a country to hold "war" against.

I never thought I'd see the day when Republicans are openly trying to undermine the institutional integrity of the United States of America in such a brazen way.

Why do they hate the Constitution?

"We haven't seen that overarching strategy yet"

No shit, Boehner. If you did, you'd work against it.

The Department of Justice is under the Executive Branch, not the legislative branch. So are military tribunals.

Sit down and shut up. Thanks.

29. They've got to be kidding!
Now it's a bad thing to put criminals on trial? :wtf:

"But Mr. Boehner and other opponents say the terrorists don't deserve the same rights as U.S. citizens, and worry that holding civilian trials signals a return to the 1990s when the threat from al Qaeda was treated as a criminal matter, not a war."

The 1990s? Wasn't that when the terrorists who bombed the WTC were tried, convicted and sent to prison for life? Isn't that what we want?

On a side note ... how is it possible that the Republican minority can block every freakin' thing Obama wants to do, but the Democratic minority couldn't do a damn thing to stop (or at least, slow down) Bush*? :grr:

30. Getting REALLy sick of Repukians pressing the auto-fear button
every time dems and Obama do anything. They know they can get traction on this with the public because of the irrational fear and boogie man fictions they've sowed for decades. it's sickening.

Watch John Stewart's new and old versions of Giuliani clips on this issue- he strongly supported the rule of law and the terror trials after the Tower bombings in 93, now he COMPLETELY contradicts himself. It's damning.
