Equatorial Guinea asked for help, says Mbeki - Coup plotters
Mafikeng - South African President Thabo Mbeki on Thursday said that Equatorial Guinea asked him for help in the trial of suspected coup plotters during a midnight meeting in Pretoria.

Mbeki, speaking while campaigning in the northwestern town of Mafikeng, said visiting officials asked for South Africa's help to ensure the trial of 15 men arrested in the small Central African state would be transparent and fair.

"It was a direct request," Mbeki was quoted by the Sapa news agency as saying. He added that the officials were "working" with Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on the issue.

1. I don't believe something like this goes down in the world without the U.S.' blessing or planning.
2. If the CIA/NSA didn't know it, then what are they doing with all our tax dollars? Iraq II!

1. I wonder if Bush will call to congratulate Mugabe and Mbeki
on this victory in the War on Terror.

2. Remember the story a week or two back about the
formation of a pan-African "peace force"? The notion
of Sud Afrique, Zimbabwe, and Equatorial Guinea cooperating
to thwart outside intervention is rather interesting. The
apparent intervention in Aristide's situation in CAR and
joining of the CARICOM protest against Aristide's kidnapping
fits in too.
