Evangelist Tony Alamo Sentenced
Source: KTBS

TEXARKANA -- Evangelist Tony Alamo was sentenced today to the maximum 175 years in prison for taking underage girl in his church across state lines for sex.

The sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Harry Barnes is tantamount to a life prison term. Alamo, 75, would have to serve approximately 85 percent of his term before becoming eligible for release from prison.

3. Damn! It says he only has to serve 85 percent of the sentence before he can be released. . .
He's only 75 years old now. He could be released when he's a sprightly 223.

My daughter's daughter's great= great-granddaughter's daughter could be put at risk of this Bible-spouting pedophile.

Won't the State do something to protect the children?

12. Cults?
The Bible says young girls are the property of men. Especially after god directs his people to slaughter an entire culture of people who worship a different god.

6. Good........
If only they had prosecuted the scores of priests that violated young boys and girls for years to this degree. Somehow the Catholic Church seems to be able to buy their way out of this kind of justice.

He and his wife were Jews who changed their names and fooled everyone into thinking they were Christians. He had a huge following and made millions. Lots of RW funddies followed him and his teaching. Shows you how the sheeple are easy to lead astray.

11. love it!
Those sanctimonious bastards are falling like flies and they are REPUBLICANS all of them. The ones who preach morality jesus and other biblical nonsense are being caught every other week it seems. it's no use though they breed like flies and anyway, they probably turn to little boys because of their wives. Has anyone seen one of them? They all have the pinched look of a non orgasmic person, similar to ones. They never had a good hump with a loud scream at the end and wild wiggling of the hips before they collapse into a contented sleep so they can wake up and do it again.

25. Ted Haggard's
wife wasn't so unattractive. I just think that the preachers have trouble accepting that sexuality is generally double-sided. Cultural cues determine the gender/sex choices by imposing penalties for the "incorrect" choice (all that "opposite" marriage crap). Sex is good. Period. If we accepted it, then we would likely have fewer "closeted"(no offence intended to those who are not "out") people in this world which could conceivably reduce the sexual tensions that lead to infidelity, promisicuity, pedophilia, etc. The taboo is what is titillating to many of those who desire sex with unequals and the submissive. It is the moralistic who have made sex and the body a thing of contempt. They shall reap, what they sow...Further proof that Republicans are backward, demented MF's.

15. Evangelist sentenced to 175 years for sex crimes
Source: Associated Press

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Evangelist Tony Alamo used his stature as a self-proclaimed prophet to force underage girls into sham marriages with him, controlling his followers with their fears of eternal suffering.

But the judge who sentenced Alamo on Friday to 175 years in prison for child sexual abuse warned of another kind of justice awaiting the aging evangelist.

"Mr. Alamo, one day you will face a higher and a greater judge than me," U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes told the preacher. "May he have mercy on your soul."

Barnes leveled the maximum sentence against the 75-year-old, who preyed on followers' young daughters and took child "brides" as young as age 8. A jury convicted Alamo in July on a 10-count indictment accusing him of taking the girls across state lines for sex.

Of course, other churches are threatening to withhold salvation in order to oppose health care reform and gay marriage. The bible, of course, does not make any mention of abortion, yet the Catholic Church is willing to allow millions of people to suffer substandard health care based on abortion.

Wow! a Federal judge who knows he's not god! :o

Seriously, I find it very disturbing that the judge thinks this is something properly consisered at sentencing.

21. That is inappropriate. Stick to the legal system, not theology, judge.
But it's sadly typical of many religious people who assume EVERYONE believes in a deity.

23. One good reason
why people are leaving churches in droves. There are some others but that is a good reason to question some of the leadership of the religious sect. Not against church, just bad people in them who find no resolution because the leadership is not on the up and up.

28. I remember when this idiot lived in Hollywood.
He loved to put out pamphlets attacking the Catholic Church and his sermons always tarred John Paul. I remember when he and his wife Susan were doing the TV Preacher thing on TV here. Susan kept saying she was immortal. That is, until she was diagnosed with caner and died because she kept going to "healing" services instead of doctors. After she died, Alamo kept her body in a freezer and he would pray for her to rise again. Well, she never did, but a bunch of idiots were stupid enough to think she was Evita. Most TV preachers are just plain sleazy, but Tony Alamo outsleazed them all. Glad to see he got 100+ years, that ass believes he's immortal, he'll soon find out how deluded he is.
