RNC chairman backs Stupak's abortion amendment
By The Associated Press
November 12, 2009, 11:17PM

HOLLAND, Mich. — Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has offered his support to a Democratic congressman from Michigan backing an abortion-related amendment to a House version of a health care bill.

Steele said Thursday during a stop in Holland it's important that the federal government doesn't pay for abortions.

The amendment by U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak of Menominee would prohibit the proposed new government-run insurance plan from covering abortions except in cases of rape, incest or to save a mother's life.

It also would bar any health plan offering abortion coverage from receiving federal subsidies in a new insurance marketplace.

9. I've said here before
Stupak is a great way to kill the bill, or get Democratic congresscritters (and their voters) at each others throats. This is to our party what amnesty was to the GOP, an issue that sharply divides people, and can lead to the loss of elections.

10. Bingo!
None of them (save maybe Rep. Cao from N.O.) plan to vote for any health bill anyway so why do they care? It's obvious that they used it as a poison pill in the House bill. But their participating in a vote on the amendment has now aligned them with the "evil Socialist Marxist Communist Fascist Nazi Brownshirt Democrats"!
