Adobe cuts 680 jobs, to take charge
Source: Reuters

11 Nov 2009, 0555 hrs IST, REUTERS

BOSTON: Adobe Systems Inc, the top maker of design software, said that it has cut 680 jobs as it moves to slash expenses. Like many companies, Adobe has been cutting headcount over the past few years as the recession has cut into sales in a bid to stem the impact of the revenue decrease on profits.

The company will take between $65 million and $71 million in pretax restructuring charges related to the cuts, which will not affect employees who worked for Omniture Inc, which Adobe acquired Oct. 23. As of January, Adobe had 7,335 employees. Adobe shares were unchanged in after-hours trade at $36.60.

1. If they'd stop charging so much for their crap, maybe this wouldn't be the way it is.

4. If 90% of copies of Photoshop weren't bootleg, it would be much cheaper.
It's a chicken and the egg thing.

2. Adobe's been top heavy for years.
Worked for them on a gig once, they had more marketers and managers than coders.

6. Yeah, their prices for their products are so outrageous.
I don't know too many people or even small businesses for that matter that can afford their software. If they would slash prices, they'd sell more copies.

This program is nearly as good & is even free!

The only big drawbacks are that you can't directly work with nef/raw formats, so you have to convert those over to jpg. It also cannot create HDR images.
