Blix says Australia caved in to US pressure on Iraq
AFP , SYDNEY
Thursday, Mar 11, 2004,Page 5

Former UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix accused Australia of caving in to US pressure to join the Iraq war and called on Canberra to be more independent of Washington, in an interview published yesterday.

Blix told the Sydney Morning Herald that he believed Australia should have displayed more independence over the US-led invasion of Iraq, although he believed it was difficult for Canberra to stand up to Washington.

"It may not be easy to be independent vis-a-vis the US because they are so tremendously powerful, but ought to be," he said in an interview to publicize his memoirs.

Blix said sovereign nations needed to display independence on questions of war and peace, and it would be improper for any country to bow to US pressure to join a war in return for favorable treatment in other areas.

2. Why Is Blix Saying All This Now vs One Year Ago
I just don't get it - I remember watching everytime he addressed the UN General Assembly and he was iffy on so many issues. Blix caved in also IMO.

3. That's true, he was very ambivalent at the time.
If he'd been more forthright, it would have been much more difficult
for the evil trio to have got away with what they did. In fact,
it probably would have caused a furore at the U.N.

4. Don't forget, - there was some doubt as to whether there were wmd's
.
.
.

in Iraq

now there is NO doubt -

The USA was lying, plain and simple

And Blix is a REAL diplomat, not one that is going to just go on his suspicions of lies and deceits by the US administration

Now there is NO doubt that the US mislead the UN as to what the real situation was in Iraq

so lets not be too hard on Hans for what he did NOT do a year or so ago

but give him credit for what he is doing NOW

We NEED people like Blix right now

I give him a big thumbs-up  and say

Carry On Hans !! - yes !!
