(Apt. complex) Manager: Muslim sticker removed from suspect's car
Source: AP

KILLEEN, Texas -- An apartment complex manager says the man accused of opening fire at Fort Hood, Texas recently had a religious bumper sticker torn off his car.

The manager, John Thompson, says a fellow soldier allegedly keyed Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's car and ripped up the bumper sticker. Thompson says the soldier had been to Iraq and was upset to learn Hasan was Muslim.

Thompson, who manages the Killeen, Texas complex where Hasan lives, says the bumper sticker read: "Allah is Love." In Arabic, Allah means God. A report filed on Aug. 16 with Killeen police says Hasan's car had been scratched causing $1,000 worth of damage. The report says an Army employee had been arrested. It didn't provide more details about what happened.

1. Two wrongs don't make a right. Sounds like neither one got the
basic message from God about loving thy neighbor.

2. I bet this guys was tormented...
on daily basis by ignorant fellow soldiers. It is growing ever clear this guy was trying as hard as possible to get out but was not allowed. I am in no way excusing the cowardly act he committed but we should not sweep what drove him under the rug.

There thousands, maybe tens of thousands of Muslims serving in the US Military...And with the Christian radicalization of our military one has to wonder if this is only the beginning of such conflicts.

3. Not too different from a school shooter IMO. Ostracized, tormented, etc.

4. insightful, agreed
Thom Hartmann mentioned he wasn't aware of a school shooter that was not also being medicated. He said this recently at the time of the last school shooting. It is important because some of the drugs out there reduce or eliminate empathy and increase some forms of violence. That is what was argued on his show and I have some negative experiences with these as well.

Wonder if this guy was medicating?

12. Bullying is alive and well in this society.
It's evident everywhere we look, if we are willing to see it.

8. It is growing ever clearer that this guy was a very disturbed man and had
been for a years. The Army fucked up big time. And by the way I just read that the Muslim Veteran Group issued a statement saying they have very few complaints of Muslim soldiers being tormented.

9. Good way to look at it.
Sounds like this guy was, in many ways, being forced to choose between his religion and his country, and it drove him nuts. That doesn't excuse him for becoming a mass-murderer, but it does provide perspective and--maybe--help prevent similar things in the future.

17. They'll have to find a way to deal with this without unfairly profiling Muslims
I don't want to see the military rounding up all the enlisted Muslims and make them prove they are not unstable. But the issue (if it is pervasive) does have to be addressed. Some fair way of first evaluating and then dealing with the issue should be found.

Who I'm thinking of un-friending because she's a soldier (two tours of Iraq) and she has such an anti-Muslim view that it's disgusting.

6. You weren't trapped in a bad situation you couldn't get out of
It's the cornered rat syndrome. This guy was stuck in a box with people who were tormenting him, had no way to get out, and was about to be sent into an even worse situation.

Human beings tend to crack under that sort of pressure. You haven't been there and you don't know what it's like.

11. What proof do you have of him being tormented?
Other than someone tearing a sticker of his car and scratching it up?

18. He had lots of options.
he choose to be a murdering piece of shit. I have been there and know EXACTLY what getting fucked over by the army is like. I choose options other than mass murder.

The man is below contempt.

19. Well, psychologist,
HE obviously felt he didn't. Sheesh, it isn't about you. It is about a man pushed to the limit, the breaking point, the point of no return. Hope it never happens to you, but only because I have compassion (and you have nothing but anger and disdain.)

23. umm yep, fuck his feelings.
they became irrelevant when he shot 50 people. I have been unhappy in my life, unhappy in the army. But somehow managed not to go nuts and kill people. I have ZERO compassion for him after what he did. I hope he suffers greatly before he is executed.

27. Trapped in a bad situation?
You mean like having your medical education entirely paid for by someone else and graduating with zero debt?

Cornered rat syndrome, my ass. The only part of that phrase that is accurate is "rat".

14. There's a very interesting post today that purports to represent some thoughts from a
fellow muslim soldier who served with Major Hasan. It's worth the read. This is a very sad and tragic situation that it appears could have been headed off, but unfortunately was not.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kamran-pasha/a-muslim-soldiers-view-fr_b_348973.html

If you were already pissed about what was happening to muslims in the MidEast and someone keyed your car and tore off a bumper sticker that bore heavy religious significance to you, it might just be the proverbial straw. Not that it in any way justifies what he did.

21. Oh noes !!
"...recently had a religious bumper sticker torn off his car."

OMG, the poor soul, this most certainly justifies shooting 40 people and killing 12 or 13 of them.

I doubt I really need a sarcasm tag here.....
