WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says the "whole nation is grieving right now" over the mass killings at Fort Hood. He urged people not to jump to conclusions while law enforcement officials gather facts about the shootings.

The president on Friday ordered flags at the White House and other federal agencies to be flown at half-staff until Veterans Day as a tribute to those who lost their lives.

US 'grieving' after army shooting

US President Barack Obama has said the "entire nation" is grieving after a shooting that killed 13 people at a Texas army base.

Mr Obama cautioned against "jumping to conclusions" and said the motives for the shooting were being investigated.

"What we do know it that their families, friends and an entire nation are grieving right now for the valiant men and women who came under attack yesterday," he said on Friday.

7. There were no other shooters, other than police.
The media got the wrong information yesterday.

4. Perfect response, IMO
and thank the gods. Everybody calm down until we have enough information to say something intelligent about it - focus on fixing the living.

6. A perfect response would have acknowledged the role...
...of two wars-about-nothing in this tragedy. The collateral damage of these failed policies under both Bush and Obama has been staggering. There's more than one deranged psychiatrist with blood on his hands.

8. Can you imagine

the spinning shitstorm that would bring from the corporate propaganda machine? What they could create from such a statement? Most Americans receive all their info from this mind melting machine. While, I agree with the sentiment, I think to state the truth that boldly would cause much more harm than good at this particular moment in time. Maybe it's just me.

edited for clarity

5. Absolutely. An unfounded conclusion produces the same anxiety as reality.
And who needs that?

9. This is the statement the media should have touted as the official White House response
Not the closing remarks of the Native American summit yesterday. After hours of news outlets saying Obama would make his official response, when the speech started it was obvious that it was the closing remarks for the summit.

And I'm glad they've named the heroine who took this monster down.
