Human remains may have been among farm meat

PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. Wed, 10 Mar 2004 21:15:47

B.C.'s provincial officer of health said he can't rule out the possibility that human remains were among meat processed at a farm now at the centre of Vancouver's missing women case.

Dr. Perry Kendall, said he was asked to assess the potential health risks of eating meat from the Port Coquitlam farm.

Investigators have found DNA at the farm site that has been matched to several women missing from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

/snip/

Not commercially distributed

Kendall said the meat was never distributed commercially. But about 40 friends and neighbours ate meat from the farm during barbecues or were given some to take home.

http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2004/03/10/canada/pigfarm031004

I watched in-depth live interviews a few hours ago both with the Doctor and the Police afterwards

Not as scary as it sounds, disgusting yes, scary no -

The officials "danced" around the obvious questions, actually nono of the reporters even"asked" THE question

but in my opinion, I imagine that in the investigations of the human remains to identify the victims of the murders, it probably became apparent that some of the bodies had been "disturbed" by pigs routing for food -

I SAID it was disgusting,

but the health-risk is non-existent in my opinion - -

2. These Canadians are beginning to scare me...
...Mad cow cover up, now this investigation which started back in 2002 only now is starting to be made public? Last Monday night one of the BC team's NHL hockey players broke an opponent's neck on the ice during a televised game. The Canadian PM Paul Martin is sucking up to Bush and Company. Next thing we know, these Canadians will be admitting that GW Bush is really their Manchurian candidate!
:eyes:  :silly:

3. I watched the news conferences too...
my heart goes out to the families, the horror just keeps growing for them. It is sad that the news got out before the authorities had time to contact the families as they have been very good doing that up until this.

I don't see it as a health hazard either as the farm has been shut down for two years but they were right to go public in case anyone still has some in their freezer.

4. Strange - In the old days the Chicago thugs would just tell the pig
farmer not to feed the pigs for a couple of days. Toss the body into the pen and gulp, gone, bones and all. Seems this was one sick-o pig farmer.

31. Oh yeah, well I was close anyway. I'm thinking farmer Vic was from a
local kids TV show. The host to a cartoon show in Milwaukee.
Oh well, that movie gave me the creeps!

11. It's all about degrees of separation. We all eventually ingest molecules
from dead people at some point. It's like when you 'clean' your house...there is "dirt" which is a bunch of small stuff you want to get rid of, and there's macro-dirt which we just call "clutter."

Size matters.

Apparently, local farming residents have suspected for some time that the remains may have been disposed of by being fed to Pickton's hogs. (Incidentally, there has been at least one murder case on the East Coast where the body was dropped into the sea "for the lobsters to eat" -- so anyone concerned about being one trophic level removed from being a cannibal, you might want to pass on the larger crustaceans!)

From the press conference the other day, I gathered that the police are mainly thinking of the same tools and equipment used to process the farm's pork output perhaps having been used on the bodies(hence the "cross-contamination" reference). So, trace amounts of tissue, rather than the first impression many of us had when we saw the words "serial killer" and "BBQ" in the same sentence ...

(but I agree -- not to trivialize what happened to the victims, since the whole story is horrifying, no matter what)

If there were a health risk, it likely would have become evident pretty soon after those parties (which were years ago).
