Goldman Sachs Received H1N1 Vaccine Before Several Hospitals (GS)

...Goldman Sachs (GS) has received 200 doses in total -- the exact same as Lennox Hill hospital.

Health officials say corporate partners are always part of the distribution of any vaccine.

There's no allegation that they broke any rules, and we're still not quite sure what the whole story is -- mainly it looks like another PR snafu for Wall Street. Some are suggesting that, perhaps, the banks should have donated their allocated vaccines...

Update: To be clear, Goldman confirms that all these decisions are made by the CDC, and that the vaccine only goes to specified high-risk individuals. In addition, as noted by the above BusinessWeek report, 29 companies including Time Warner another others have also been slected as vaccine distribution.

rich and powerful first at any cost. Do you honestly think the guy in the mail room at Goldman/Sucks got his H1N1 shot?

...and that the vaccine (at least that batch) was really something evil.

These criminals need to be put out of business one way or another. :grr:

32. You should be grateful. The people who run this country and own just about everything
in it are being taking care of first.

Bow to the United States of Goldman Sachs. On your knees, peasant!!!

3. GS and big banks have a big PR problem
and stuff like this just makes people madder. When the average Joe or Jane has to wait for their vaccine but Wall Street guys get it sent right to their office it doesn't look good. It just reinforces the perception that rich dudes don't play by the rules. Maybe they make so much goddamn money that they don't give a crap what people think but I think they prefer to amass their piles and piles of cash under the radar...

I remember earlier this year reading stories of executives in India getting either hanged or beheaded. Time will tell whether or not the American populace has decided they have had enough.

Edit to add: ps: is that a Star Trek chess set? It's been so long since I've seen an episode I can't recall what they're called. It's wonderful to see it!

10. Wow. Just wow.
I really wonder how these guys go to sleep at night. How do they live with themselves. Some kid, pregnant woman, asthmatic person - someone is going to die of H1N1 because they couldn't get that shot. Yet Goldman Sachs keeps theirs for the rich and powerful among them.

Honestly, when IS the tipping point that it becomes clear to the Republican apologists for big corporate bailouts, that only the rich matter. The rest of us are expendable. I really hope someone posts freeper responses to this. I would love to see how they contort their thinking to justify this.

Despicable.

Can line up like the rest of us and get their vaccine, where, I don't know.
My 16mo. old is still waiting because his Doctor's office still doesn't have any and it's running rampant here in Nebraska as I'm sure it is all over the place. Yes these pig fuckers get it. No offense to the pigs.

15. Not only Goldman Sachs.
Citigroup has been supplied with 1,200 units and Goldman with 200, says Jessica Scaperotti, press secretary for the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene. The agency has so far approved orders by 29 employers—including 16 that have yet to receive any vaccine—after they were cleared by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Big employers that have received or are scheduled to receive vaccine so far include Time Warner (TWX), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Memorial Sloan-Kettering, New York Presbyterian Healthcare System, and New York University.

Let me guess: they paid more for the vaccine than hospitals did.

The very young are most at risk. How many of them work at GS and Citigroup again?

Dang. The government is indeed getting between doctors and patients.

27. Reminds me of something I read
a while back:
Maintaining a huge and rapidly growing underclass is social suicide. How about we have full employment, clean air and water, universal single-payer health care, a massive investment in education and the future and an equally massive reduction in military expenditure? Nothing to do with heart - it really is just basic common sense. It's stupid to oppress the poor - they tend to run out of patience: ask the Romanovs or the Cuban émigrés in Florida or the people of Viet Nam. -- We have more guns per capita here than is sane. You think the rich account for that stat? -- Just how many rich kids are there in Iraq today? You get the picture? -- 1st world countries take care of their people because the elites {sic} know better.

33. that's why they have Palin and Beck: they're not afraid of the guns, since they ARE the NRA
it's not a matter of preponderance, but that armament and fear reinforce each other (visible in the 1927 arms-race novel "The Pallid Giant")

None of them has received the vaccine.

Working with employers is a really good idea for the normal flu vaccine when there is an ample supply.

30. I can't get it to save my life, and here it turns out I can give it to my patients.
And what if it turns out they can turn around and give it to their people?????

Totally fucked up priorities in this country. ALL veterinarians are by the very nature of their work part of the healthcare system, because ZOONOSES EXIST. But we are on no priority list for the vaccine.
