GM U.S. October sales rise 4.1 percent
Source: Reuters

DETROIT, Nov 3 (Reuters) - General Motors Co on Tuesday posted a 4 percent U.S. sales increase for October, its first year-over-year gain since January 2008, and said the U.S. economy and car industry were showing signs of recovery.

GM said total sales rose to 177,603 vehicles in October from 170,585 a year earlier, with its Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick brands accounting for about 95 percent of the automaker's retail sales.

The automaker, which emerged from a government-funded bankruptcy in July, said the U.S. auto industry's annualized sales for the month of October would be the strongest month since November 2008 excluding July and August, which were supported by government "cash for clunkers" incentives.

5. I was in the veterinarian office a few months ago reading a car magazine
the article was comparing hybrids, and rated the GM product the best (I don't remember what it was offhand but could probably find it).

7. I won't unrec, but it would be nice to see honesty instead of hype.
While they beat estimates and I understand that "less bad" is the new "good", on a straight sales day comparison, sales were flat. And that's with huge declines from one of their biggest domestic competitors.

6. Chrysler fell 30.4%
Ford and GM did not adjust for the extra day in 2009. Adjusted, GM's number is a .4% increase. Ford's adjusted number is a .6% decline.

Not quite as rosy as this article indicates, but not as bad as expected.
