GOP Rep: Health reform scarier than terrorism
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON — A Republican congresswoman said Monday that people have more to fear from Democratic health care legislation than from terrorists.

Rep. Virginia Foxx of North Carolina made the comments in a speech on the House floor Monday.

"I believe that the greatest fear that we all should have ... to our freedom comes from this room, this very room, and what may happen later this week in terms of a tax increase bill masquerading as a health care bill," she said. "I believe we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country."

The Democratic-controlled House is expected to vote later this week on the sweeping health care overhaul legislation that would extend coverage to millions of the uninsured. Foxx said it was scary because it would raise taxes, increase the power of federal bureaucrats and force people to buy government-mandated coverage — among other things.

1. that's the fatal flaw with using fear as a motivator
you're always having to turn up the fear to keep people motivated.

The truly scary thing, in my opinion, is a bunch of corporate whores, claiming to be patriots, peddling fear.

7. Often, I bolt upright from a sound sleep, praying "Please, God, don't make health care affordable
for poor people. Please!!111!!!!" Amen.

On the other hand, I am kind of scared of what may emerge from this Congress under the label "health care reform bill.

13. Yeah, I know. She's made other "stupid" remarks too. These Republicans...........
...........may be having some kind of secret internal conservative lottery to see who can "outdumb" each other. I mean, I have no other explanation for some of the stupid shit a lot of them say. Wait for tonight (the elections) to see all the fucking weirdos come out of the cracks.

17. Who do you think?

Just the same good old boys who have plagued this nation for generations. They would agree wholeheartedly with John C. Calhoun, provided any of them read books or knew who Calhoun was.

9. Well, Mayberry, how's that Batshit Old Bat workin' out for ya?
Her district includes Mt Airy, the model for Andy Griffith's "Mayberry". Griffith backed Obama and I'm pretty sure he'd have less than cordial things to say about this repeat offender for the title "Batshittiest Batshit Old Bat in the House of Reprehensibles". Foxx and Bachmann have all-but mud-rassled for the title, and, hoddam, I just don't think the world's stomachs are quite ready.

To the rest of the world, NC apologizes for this ugly, stupid, evil, wizened-up, hateful, spiteful, sheet-wearing hag. We have no idea what rock she slithered out from under. We'd put her back if we could get a grip on her. The slime is so thick it's hard to keep hold.

15. The 5th Congressional District of NC
is a beautiful place, with many decent people, but sadly also home to many wingnuts who will automatically elect any Republican, or at least that's been the case since the retirement of their ten-term Democratic Rep. Stephen Neal in 1994. Since that time, they have given us Burr, and now Foxx.

Foxx is a despicable person, and this use of fear as a political tactic is not new to her. She is the face of the modern Republican Party, and I wish the national media gave her more airtime so that the people can see who the Republicans of today for what they really are: a lunatic fringe of religious extremists, racists, homophobes and nutjobs.

20. I have watched her tell outright lies on congressional podiums and realized that they don't have to
be accountable for what they say on that platform.

That is way too powerful a platform for bullshitters to be
able to stand and inform our American citizens. Are they
not to be believed? Hell yea, they are believed by their
constituents. What a wacky way to run a government.

We have gone to seed. Time to rake it in. Till the land.
Start over
with fresh organic seeds and grow us a new America.

21. GOP health care reform plan IS terrorism.
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 06:03 PM by damntexdem
It would up the kill rate from the 40,000 who now die annually form lack of coverage -- and kill thousands more who are covered.
