Reid reassures the left Lieberman is on board
By Alexander Bolton - 11/02/09 08:15 PM ET

Sen. Joe Lieberman has reached a private understanding with Majority Leader Harry Reid that he will not block a final vote on healthcare reform, according to two sources briefed on the matter.

The unpredictable Democrat-turned-Independent last week publicly stated he would join Republicans in filibustering the Democratic legislation after Reid (D-Nev.) announced he had included a government-run health insurance plan in the bill.

But sources said Reid’s staff is telling liberal interest groups that Lieberman (Conn.) has assured Reid he will vote with Democrats in the necessary procedural vote to end debate, perhaps with intentions to change the bill.

“Lieberman keeps assuring Reid that he’s OK,” said one source. “But he’s one of those characters — you never know with Joe.

5. Reid couldn't assure the Left that the sky was blue, at a press conference in the Nevada desert.
We trust his spineless ass only slightly more than Lieberdouche.

25. If you beat up on Reid, you're beating up on a majority of Democratic Senators. If they
didn't approve of his practices, they would not keep electing him leader, which they do.

Reality is a bitch, isn't it?

6. The only thing that makes me think this might be true...
Reid is usually a complete invertebrate, but when his back's to the wall, he does have fangs. Typically, he's only used them on fellow Democrats.

But now, his back's to the wall because he's up for election in 2010, and he's behind in the polls, largely because everyone (correctly) sees him as spineless. So now he HAS to look like he can put up a fight and win, which means he absolutely cannot afford to have himself seen being humiliated by the likes of Joe Lieberman.

So yeah, even though in most cases, Reid can't be trusted to do the right thing, in this particular case, he very well might do real honest-to-god arm twisting to jam health care reform through. He might actually do things like yank Joe's Homeland Security chair this time.

At least that's my theory for now.

Hopefully Reid has committed liberals like Tom Harkin breathing down his neck too and they're holding Reid's feet to the fire.

13. Reid couldn't find his wanker if it glowed in the dark and had GPS
So, why should I trust him when he says LIEberman is saying one thing to him in private while Joe is telling the world he'll do something else? Reid's a congenital idiot. To say he's got the spine of a jellyfish is an insult to jellyfish. I'm at the point where I'm almost hoping they do filibuster this watered down POS "public option" and let those dipstick Retardicans go back to their angry constituents. According to polls, even a small majority of Republicans favor health care reform and in Connecticut, 65% of Holy Joe's constituents favor it. Maybe we'll get candidates with some cajones that run on platforms of voting for robust public options. I hope it's not just misplace optimism on my part. I just had such high hopes with a Democratic President and a filibuster-proof Democratic majority that I didn't count on the wimp factor. Just why do I belong to such a pussy party? Oh, yeah. Because the other guys are bigoted near-Fascists and crazy as moonbats.

16. Lieberman is a dishonest, backstabbing, betraying asshole whose word isn't worth 2 cents
At least when Jim DeMint tells you is he for or against something, you can take him at his word.

Lieberman's word isn't worth shit.

21. not reassuring at all
logically , it means that either the legislation will be horrible or that Reid threatened Lieberman.
and we all know how likely the latter is.
