North Korea Calls For Direct Talks With U.S.
Source: nyt/reuters

North Korea called on Monday for direct talks with its long-time foe, the United States, and gave the clearest signal so far it was ready to return to nuclear disarmament talks it has boycotted for almost a year.

The comments follow last week's rare visit by a North Korean official to the United States and what has been a "charm" offensive by the ostracized state which some analysts say is looking increasingly desperate for finance and aid.

1. If any country needs a Coup from the radical left,
if there is even such a group in NK, it is this country.

The selfish materialistic goofball Kim Jong-il probably can't get HBO or his favorite booze due to the boycott, so he is ready for direct talks? We'll see.

4. The DPRK isn't too diplomatically isolated
People talking about how Kim cannot get cognac or whatever forget that pretty much every Eastern European, Asian, African and Arabic country sends ambassadors (and the DPRK sends them ambassadors) to the DPRK promising the maintaining of good relations, the promise of better relations, calls for the betterment of the Korean people, etc. Supporting these efforts are DPRK organizations in these countries such as Juche study groups and Friendship Associations. In some cases DPRK-X Country ties are quite deep, such as how during the Cold War the DPRK used to train officers in African and Arab armies.

The DPRK can actually count on the support of quite a few Africans, Arabs, etc., regardless of how deluded these same supporters may be. In their eyes, US actions are just more examples of imperialism against an innocent state.
