Sixth person arrested in homecoming gang rape
Source: (CNN)

Police arrested another teen Thursday, the sixth suspect jailed in connection with the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl on a northern California high school campus.

Jose Carlos Montano, 18, was arrested on charges of felony rape, rape in concert with force, and penetration with a foreign object, said Richmond Police Lt. Mark Gagan.

Montano was arrested Thursday evening in San Pablo, California, a small town about two miles from the city of Richmond, where the crime took place.

1. If there is anything more vile than rape it's gang rape.
Seriously, I understand pack mentality but how the fuck can someone follow ANYONE into rape?

Vile beyond words.

5. Glad to hear it!
Please remember that rape/sexual assault is about power and control in the most intimate way.

7. People who engage in this type of behavior are not human and should not be treated like humans.
Regular laws should not apply here. Seems like there were cell phones taking pics and videos, so if they show anyone participating, no trial, no jury, straight to jail (and maybe the death chamber).

8. With that statement- you become just like those you decry
No- strike that- worse, because you're (ostensibly)attempting to behave rationally.

This is the very same set of attitudes that led to Guantanamo and torture.

9. Hey, a person has to draw a line somewhere....
this is where i draw mine. And comparing the abuses of "suspected terrorists" (what the fuck does that even MEAN anymore?) to HOODLUMS CAUGHT ON VIDEO AND PICTURES GANG RAPING A GIRL is disingenuous at best and apologetic to the rapists at worst.

13. The line is drawn with due process
And in every other western nation, it ends before consideration of capital punishment.

As to being an "apologist" -that's the usual retort from teeth gnashers.

Not to worry though- California will likely imprison all of the defendants for life.

15. I will admit my anger is driving my point of view, no doubt.
And in a civilized society, anger cannot be the mechanism for rule. I am sure they will see jail for a long time.

10. Unfortunately these fuckers are all too human, dehumanizing them is an excuse to ignore...
Edited on Fri Oct-30-09 03:15 PM by Odin2005
...misogynistic attitudes that lead to sick, evil things like this. This shit does not happen in a vacuum separated from the society. That was the point I was trying to make a while ago in the gang rape hoax threads, and people seemed to miss the point and somehow got the idea that I think group sex is inherently bad or something because I criticized the misogynistic nature of gang-bangs. :eyes:

11. NO, you are right, they ARE human. But they act sub-human
and I see NO excuse WHATSOEVER for this behavior, none. Sure, I agree that "misogynistic attitudes that lead to sick, evil things like this" are real and undeniable, but that is NOT an excuse to behave like this.

14. Of course it's not an excuse, but it is a contributing factor in such behavior.
Also, One must remember that things like this and the stereotypical "man grabs woman off the street and rapes her" scenario make the majority of the news stories but most rapes are acquaintance rapes where the rapist can get off or get a lighter sentence if his lawyer pushes the right misogynistic, victim-blaming memes with the jury, and the rapist in such cases generally seems like an ordinary person, and many will make excuses for his behavior.

This in northern CT, sometimes in the middle of winter. Just put on your parka and boots, and go.

Edited on Fri Oct-30-09 04:08 PM by wordpix

http://www.abcnews.go.com/WN/police-arrest-richmond-california-gang-rape/story?id=8935918

snip An official with the school district said Tuesday officials were praying for the victim's recovery but also defended school security, saying that when the students leave the dance, "we don't take them home." snip

I thought this occurred on the school grounds, where there should have been security outside as well as inside.

Note the officials "were praying." How about doing the job of security, instead of consulting jesus-in-the-sky?

23. How could security not
notice a group of drunk guys on the campus? No one bothered to check this group out? My first reaction to this was where the hell were security, the chaperones, the staff and the police that supervise these events? Then someone posted that the attack occurred blocks away off campus. Apparently, that was not the case.

But now the news is saying that this occurred on campus. If that's the case then the school has some questions to answer.

25. reports I read said the attack was on the edge of the campus
Not one report stated it was off campus.

I worked at one school that had 600+ acres. On dance nights, the regular night security people driving around in vehicles were doubled and tripled AND there were plenty of teachers on duty both outside and inside the buildings. And not just inside the bldg. where the dance occurred, but all bldgs kids could go into.

There is no excuse for what occurred at this school. :-(

But school property nonetheless.

27. Gang Rape Victim's Friend Blasts Officials
Baker blamed school district officials for not doing enough to protect her school and her friend. She said none of the four officers who were at the homecoming dance was patrolling the school premises even though a dozen young men were hanging out just a few feet from the gym entrance. She says school officials chose not to take any action.

"I looked outside of the gym and I saw 12 to 15 guys, sitting there, with no IDs," Baker said at the hearing. "The officers -- not only did they not check the IDs of those students or men sitting outside of of our campus, but the security officers who are employed here did no ... checking either. The assistant principal looked outside and actually saw those men, and did nothing about it."

29. Even the local ex-cons are enraged, looking for the perps: excerpt from today's article:
Rough justice

Even the neighborhood ex-cons who lounge against their cars all afternoon at the back end of campus are outraged. For all the sensitivity training going on, this is still a rough city - and there is rough justice.

"If we'd gone over there earlier, before it was over, those mother- would have been shot. For real," said 24-year-old Chuckie Pelayo, leader of a pack that hangs out at the corner of Hayes Street and Emeric Avenue, one block from the rape scene. "We've all been to prison, and we know the code of how you're supposed to behave. These younger guys, they don't know the code.

"Some of us know a few guys who were there, and we're out looking for them," Pelayo added, the others nodding. "They better hope the cops find them first, because when we find them the same thing that happened to that girl is gonna happen to them."
