Bridge could open in time for Friday morning commute
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

"The Bay Bridge could reopen in time for Friday morning's commute, Caltrans officials said this evening.

"There is a possibility that the Bay Bridge will be open by the morning commute, but people should still plan that the bridge may not be open for service," said Caltrans Spokesman Bart Ney.

The announcement was an about face from what Dale Bonner, secretary of the state's Business, Transportation and Housing Authority, said two hours earlier at a press conference.

Caltrans officials said Bonner misspoke and that the bridge repair work will be completed by 10 p.m. this evening and then inspectors will review the work and determine if the bridge is safe enough to be reopened, Ney said."

1. Hope it works out for them
I'd hate to be dependent on the bridge.

2. glad I don't live there any longer
I moved away from the Bay Area 4+ years ago. I miss the culture and the restaurants. I'll never miss the traffic.

6. You were one of the lucky ones
if BART took you to where you wanted to go. Public transportation in Bay Area is somewhat better than it used to be but it is expensive compared to places like NYC where the MTA goes everywhere and it's a flat fee regardless of whether your ride is one stop or 15.

I agree that driving in the city is a real pain, especially with a stick on some of those hills. Scary stuff.

7. I would be willing to deal with the traffic and with crowded transit.
If only I could live in the Bay Area again. But it's so expensive; and so hard to find jobs.

3. I want them to be really sure.
Before they re-open it...

It is frustrating, of course.

8. Well, maybe they could extend car-pool lanes to run all across the bridge.
And then arrange for bridge parts to not fall on those lanes. ;-)
