Bush family political heir is shipping off to war
Source: Yahoo

George P. Bush, or "P" as he's known to some, is thought to be the biggest hope for a fourth generation of Bush family political leaders, with some suggesting that he might run for statewide office in Texas at some point in the next four to eight years. But, as The Daily Beast points out today, any future George P. Bush political ambitions will have to be put on hold as his Navy Reserve unit is set to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan in the coming weeks.

Lt. Junior Grade Bush, 33, joined the Navy Reserve in 2007 as an intelligence officer. The Navy recently told him, like thousands of others, that the two ongoing wars required him to go active-duty overseas, potentially in Iraq or Afghanistan. "It's been communicated to me that it's not a question of 'if,' it's a question of 'when,'" Bush told The Daily Beast. "It's just a matter of time."

Bush, who said that he was inspired by the service of his grandfather George H.W. Bush as well as former NFL star Pat Tillman, signed up for an eight-year term in the Navy Reserve in 2007. When word got out about his enlistment, Bush told Politico that he was "disappointed" as he'd intended to keep it under wraps, saying, "I was hoping to keep this as confidential as possible. I'm not doing it for political purposes or anything along those lines." However, prior to his joining some opponents of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan roundly criticized the Bush administration for the Bush family's lack of service in the war effort, saying that if George W. Bush was willing to send the children of other Americans into harm's way overseas, then George P. Bush and other eligible Bush family members should join the armed services and risk their lives fighting for the country as well.

Compared to JFK Jr. due to his good looks and seemingly effortless public charisma, George Prescott Bush (his middle name honors his great-grandfather, former U.S. Sen. Prescott Bush) is the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and his wife, Columba Bush, who was born and raised in Mexico. Bush's half-Hispanic bloodline aided his burst onto the American political scene in 2000, when he helped his uncle George W. Bush rally up considerable Hispanic voter support by speaking at the Republican National Convention and starring in Spanish-language campaign ads, an effort that many feel helped Bush win the state of Florida's electoral votes, which turned out to be the controversial determining factor in the close election.
...
Other than being arrested at 18 for burglarizing the home of an ex-girlfriend, George P. Bush appears to have all the right credentials to carry the Bush legacy well into the future. While family members often refer to the former presidents Bush as "41" and "43," the Washington Post says that some close to the family have taken to referring to George P. Bush as "47," so it's probably safe to assume that those inside the family see him as a potential future Bush torchbearer just as many outside the family do. Could a possible Bush vs. Biden matchup be in the works for 2020 or 2024, with George P. Bush taking on Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware and son of the current vice president who also served in Iraq? In some circles, it may not be too early to speculate.

Seems to me that being arrested for burglary is a "right credential" for a Bush.

What's with this "political heir" stuff? This isn't a kingdom where the throne is handed down through the generations.

73. Named after Barbara Pierce Bush's relative, President Franklin Pierce, another loser. It's in the
genes on both sides of the family, folks.

BEWARE.

From Franklin Pierce's wiki

"His inoffensive personality caused him to make many friends, but he suffered tragedy in his personal life and as president subsequently made decisions which were widely criticized and divisive in their effects, thus giving him the reputation as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history. Pierce's popularity in the North declined sharply after he came out in favor of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, repealing the Missouri Compromise and reopening the question of the expansion of slavery in the West. Pierce's credibility was further damaged when several of his diplomats issued the Ostend Manifesto. Historian David Potter concludes that the Ostend Manifesto and the Kansas-Nebraska Act were "the two great calamities of the Franklin Pierce administration.... Both brought down an avalanche of public criticism."

More important says Potter, they permanently discredited Manifest Destiny and "popular sovereignty" as a political doctrine and slogan of that time that purported to delegate the decision whether slavery should be allowed in a particular territory to the eligible white male voters therein, instead of being determined by a national scheme such as that embodied in the Missouri Compromise and similar agreements between the free and slave interests.

Abandoned by his party, Pierce was not renominated to run in the 1856 presidential election and was replaced by James Buchanan as the Democratic candidate. After losing the Democratic nomination, Pierce continued his lifelong struggle with alcoholism as his marriage to Jane Means Appleton Pierce fell apart. His reputation was destroyed during the American Civil War when he declared support for the Confederacy, and personal correspondence between Pierce and Confederate President Jefferson Davis was leaked to the press. He died in 1869 from cirrhosis."

A Northerner whose sympathies lay with the South. A guy you'd love to have a beer with, but one of the worst Presidents in history. Bit of a heavy drinker. Abandoned by his Party.

Sound like anyone who's been in the Oval Office recently?

80. Yes, so I've heard.
I've also heard that Hitler's IQ was quite high, perhaps even genius level. But looks and/or brains don't necessarily a decent person make. There's no doubt in my mind that the Bush's are all cut from the same cloth. Of course it is clear from the photos you included that you and I are of the same mind on this.

26. This is why you don't give the Bush Family a "pass" on the whole Nazi thing.
They're still naming their kids after the Nazi who tried to over-throw the American government.

For example, if you're unfortunate enough to be Adolf Hitler's grandson, that's one thing. If your family is still naming their children Adolf, it becomes a valid reason to be suspicious.

I talked to an unfortunate individual who had some signifigant pysch issues because of it. He was basically volun-told that he was going by his chief, and while over there he watched some buddies of his get blown up by an IED. The Navy has a whole lot of problems actually, they treat people like garbage in the enlisted ranks. He's an officer though, so he likely won't have to deal with most of the stupid BS.

33. Naval intelligence is a different bird entirely.
ONI, or whatever it's called today, is America's oldest and most tightly run intelligence organization. It has been known to make considerable use of reservists, using them to bolster existing intelligence staffs during wartime and sometimes employing entire reserve units doing who knows what.

Delmart Vreeland, the fellow who supposedly predicted the 9/11 attacks and the targets from a jail cell in Canada, claimed to be Naval Intelligence. The Navy denies it despite the fact that Vreeland's attorney called the Pentagon during an extradition hearing, was told that Vreeland was a Lieutenant, and was put in contact with Vreeland's voice mail. The Bush Administration won Vreeland's extradition, then put Vreeland away for 300 years for child prostitution.

In other words, Naval Intelligence is exactly the sort of place where you'd expect to find a Bush.

Or lack thereof.

"What's with this "political heir" stuff? This isn't a kingdom where the throne is handed down through the generations."

The Kennedys wanted to do it. The Bushes are going for it. The Clintons wanted to do a same-generation version.

That is one of the reasons I wanted Obama to win the nomination.

Think about it. If Clinton had won that could have meant two families running the White House for 28 years, an entire generation. Scary.

45. Good thing his uncle is getting a pass for war crimes
Now he can always address the issue by saying, "If my uncle had done anything illegal he would have been impeached/prosecuted" &
"In a great country like America, where no one is above the law, my uncle would have been indicted if he had committed such crimes" & "Sure, mistakes were made - but everything my uncle did the DOJ said he could do - legally".

...or some such variation.

Golly, if Bush was in prison for war crimes like he should be, "47" might not be trying on the title right now.

Alas..."P" has nothing to fear.

Then went on and pulled off some of the most plunderous theft of a nation in human history.

"P" learned from the best.

52. Well, that's something I haven't seen in years.
The words "Intelligence" and "Bush" in the same paragraph without the modifying terms "none," "lack," or "absence."

57. This is one of the "little brown ones" as Bush 41 said, right?

Guess he's a big brown one now. Thank you for your service, but we're good--don't need any more Bushes in national office.

64. Articles like this make me ill. Specifically the following section:

It makes me ill because it is the very sort of thing the Founders fought against happening in America -- dynasty. I felt just as disgusted after Senator Kennedy died and a lot of folks here were talking about his grandchild being the future of the Kennedys. Yuck. Some people may find these folks fascinating, but the reality is that this smacks of people seemingly wanting some sort of royalty. Political heirs? Really? DYNASTY.

Beau Biden versus George P. Bush?

:puke:

This sort of thing just makes it harder for people who want to do the right thing and serve in public office even more of an up hill battle. You don't need name recoginition when you can say, "My uncle the President", "My grandfather the President", "My father the vice president", "His grandfather the late Senator"...

:puke:

69. the BUSH name is POISON
Repukes lost in 2006 & 2008 because enough Americans began to realize GW was a disaster for this country, and as the years go by that conclusion will only be reinforced.

The kid's last name is a strike against him.
