Palin backs 3rd-party candidate in NY House race
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 05:23 PM by denem

ALBANY, N.Y. — Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has endorsed a third-party candidate over the GOP-backed contender in New York's congressional special election, saying her own party has abandoned its core values.

The former Alaska governor, who was Arizona Sen. John McCain's running-mate last year, said Thursday she was backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over Republican Assemblywoman Dierdre Scozzafava in the 23rd Congressional District race.

Palin said Hoffman, a businessman, stands for Republican principles — smaller government, lower taxes and a commitment to individual liberty — and that Scozzafava is more aligned with Democrats. (...)

"The Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate who more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race," Palin said in a post on her Facebook page Thursday night.

Sarah "Nader" Palin, the country is counting on you, (and I do mean counting): Go Rogue in 2012. Run, for God's sake, Run.

5. So, is she going to throw her chips in with the Conservative Party?
This is BIG for the former REPUBLICAN VP candidate to do this. Saying the PARTY has abandoned its core values?! Not the candidate, the party? Wow!

19. Lets Hope the Teabaggers Unite behind Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman Too!
This is almost too good to be true. I hope that it catches on across the country. Third parties only suck up votes and seldom win. It is appropriate that Palin is driving the wooden stake into the heart of the Republican Party.

...............poll I saw today "a" (just one Republican) in the race would cream the Dem. I hope this shit keeps up and they eat themselves up in the primaries with their bullshit of who's more conservative.

Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 06:43 PM by KamaAina
it's a special election to fill Sen. Gillibrand's old House seat. The Conservative Party of NY State has its own ballot line. It's usually shared with the repukes, of course, but occasionally they run their own candidates (lie Hoffman), and even more occasionally will endorse a Dem.

edit: clarity

or really anywhere else. Facebook and Twitter are not power centered political podiums--they are not exactly respected ideological think tanks. Any whack job can do the same. Ross Perot has done all this before and he had lots more cash to spread around and look what happened to him. She will be hard pressed to join forces with that other guy, the Repub/Independant that tried running on the Repub ticket --Ron Paul because basically she'll be fighting for his voters--- they are smarter than her average fan, so good luck dumb cluck.

42. I believe Ross's run had a very significant influence on Clinton. Unfortunately,
both Parties were so surprised by Perot's incredible showing that they joined hands and took undemocratic action to freeze out third Party candidates, or at least to make it much harder for them.
